Everton Fan View: Fans are sick of the substitutions and tactics, not just the results
Everton fans are sick and tired of Sam Allardyce, the club haven’t progressed since he took over and the football has been awful. We rarely have any shots and even the defensive solidity that is usually associated with his sides has gone missing.
You can tell a lot from a manager by the substitutions that he makes. It was only recently that one of his changes was met with a chorus of boos at Goodison Park. A lot of Everton fans have wondered why Turkish international Cenk Tosun hasn’t been given more minutes at the club.
Against Crystal Palace a few weeks back, we were 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go and Allardyce thought it would be a good idea to take off Idrissa Gueye. In his place, he put in the unpopular Morgan Schneiderlin and the boos came. We were winning comfortably and our £27m striker was left on the bench.

Fast forward to the Burnley game, and it was another substitution involving Tosun which was booed once again. It was 1-1 in a game we were looking to win and Allardyce decides to take off the man who has scored in the game. The manager would later indicate that it was because he tired, but he would have been more match fit if he’d been given more minutes in the previous games.
Everton went on to concede a second and needed to score a goal, with Allardyce having one more change up his sleeve. He inexplicably decided to take off our most creative player in Gylfi Sigurdsson and, once again, the crowd let the manager know exactly how they felt. Even with losing, we ended the game with no more of an attacking threat than we started with.
Playing not to lose
It seems at times as though Allardyce doesn’t know how to win games, he only knows how to not lose them, and he’s failing at that at the moment, too. The Everton fans are fed up with him and his strange and defensive substitutions.
After the game, when he was asked about the Everton fans’ unrest, he had the audacity to smirk at the question. We should be aiming to beat teams like Burnley, but the manager seems to have little to no interest in trying to do so. It’s a horrible style of football that is leading to horrible results. He seems to have his favourites and isn’t giving minutes to players who may be able to make a difference.
Burnley hadn’t won in 12 and had never come back from losing to win a Premier League match before Everton came along. They had the most shots they’ve had all season and thoroughly deserved to win. Sean Dyche showed that the Everton board should have been looking at managers likes him, and not the dinosaur that is Sam Allardyce. The sooner he leaves, the better.
