Everton vs Manchester United LIVE!

Alejandro Garnacho's staggering overhead kick set Manchester United on course for a comprehensive 3-0 away win on a day when hosts Everton protested against their Premier League points deduction. Goodison Park was a cauldron as the infuriated Toffees returned to action for the first time since being docked 10 points for breaching financial rules.

The Premier League felt the full force of Everton fans' ire before and during a match that went United's way as goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial complemented Garnacho's acrobatic stunner. The 19-year-old's effort just 113 seconds into Sunday's match was a jaw-dropping goal-of-the-season contender - a fantastic overhead kick that stunned rocking Goodison.

Everton responded well and came close to levelling before the break, with Kobbie Mainoo, 18, capping a mightily impressive first Premier League start with a key goal-line clearance. The home fans were angered by some of the officiating and the mood darkened shortly after half-time as Rashford scored his second of the season from a penalty that followed the VAR's intervention. Martial was fouled and went on to add his second of the campaign as United won by more than a one-goal margin for the first time in the league this season, with suspended boss Erik ten Hag watching from the stands.

Thanks for following!

Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the great Premier League goals as Manchester United picked up a 3-0 win over Everton.

A raucous atmosphere was expected at Goodison Park, as Everton played for the first time since they were handed a ten-point deduction during the international break, dropping them into the relegation zone.

Protests took place ahead of kick-off and the home fans were fired up as the match got underway, but there was a stunned silence within three minutes after Garnacho's incredible overhead kick.

Diogo Dalot got away down the right and lifted a cross to the back post, where Garnacho readjusted and, as he moved backwards, flung himself into the air and sent a stunning finish into the top corner.

Everton wasted chance and chance to equalise before the break, as United took a narrow lead into half-time, and it proved costly for the Toffees as the visitors pulled away in the second-half.

Keane not impressed...

19:47 , Matt Verri

Roy Keane took aim at Erik ten Hag as he he insisted Manchester United are a "long way" from competing at the top of the Premier League.

Ten Hag was full of praise for his players after their win over Everton, hailing Bruno Fernandes' leadership qualities after the United captain, the club's usual penalty taker, handed over the ball for Rashford to take the spot-kick and end his long goal drought.

However, Keane was less than impressed with those comments, and criticised the upbeat mood from the United camp as he demanded the team start to deliver against their rivals for European places.

"He's giving toffee out there to Bruno for passing on the ball for the penalty," Keane told Sky Sports.

"Absolute rubbish coming out with that. Manchester United are sixth now - if you went back a few years, if you were sixth you'd be embarrassed. But obviously they seem happy with sixth.

"They have a long way to go. Manchester United have to be competing with the best teams. That's including Liverpool, City, Arsenal, and obviously you've got teams like Spurs having a decent spell, Villa and of course Newcastle.

"They go to Newcastle next week - we'll see what Manchester United turns up. That's what they're supposed to do, turn up for the big games."

Post-match thoughts from Dyche

The Everton boss is taking positives from his side's display...

Fernandes explains why Rashford took penalty

18:49 , Matt Verri

"I felt Marcus needed a little bit of confidence," Fernandes told Sky Sports.

"He needs his goal. Marcus is an excellent penalty taker too, I was 100% sure he could score that penalty. It's not about who takes it, it's about scoring the penalty and Marcus did it perfectly."

He added: "I think obviously strikers and wingers need to score goals, it is part of their game. Marcus was unstoppable and he could take on everybody.

"Marcus last season was amazing so expectations have been higher and it is just about getting those goals back."

Work to do for Everton

18:35 , Matt Verri

Everton remain 19th in the table then, above Burnley only on goal difference.

With Luton winning yesterday, the Toffees are five points off safety after 13 games of the season.

Still a long, long way to go, but Sean Dyche will be desperate for his side to get out of the bottom three as quickly as possible.

Goal that put the result beyond doubt...

72 mins: Away fans thought it was 3-0!

Everton 0-2 Man United

Everton starting to build some pressure, ball into the box drops nicely for Doucoure at the back post. Catches the strike really sweetly, but Dalot gets his body in the way.

Everton 0-2 Man United

17:56 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Low-quality couple of minutes.

Both sides lumping it long to nobody in particular - fire has gone out of Goodison. Hosts need a goal in the next ten minutes or so to get it going again.

Everton 0-2 Man United

17:54 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Fernandes away down the right, lovely ball from Mainoo.

The United captain has options, as he is allowed to stroll to the byline. Cut back is blocked, another corner.

Everton 0-2 Man United

17:52 , Matt Verri

63 mins: United whip a couple of decent crosses into the box, but you'd back Everton to deal with anything in the air.

Two corners in quick succession for the visitors, who are taking the sting out of the match again.

Everton 0-2 Man United

17:49 , Matt Verri

60 mins: United are being pushed right back, Everton still in this match. One goal back and things will be feeling very different.

Young lifts a ball to the back post, falls to Mykolenko and he lashes wide.

Everton 0-2 Man United

17:46 , Matt Verri

57 mins: So then, for all their good play, Everton need to find two goals in a little over half an hour.

You'd imagine Young is one foul away from being off - needs to be very, very careful.

Gueye tries his luck from distance, brilliant effort! Onana tips it over.

GOAL! Everton 0-2 Man United | Marcus Rashford 56'

17:44 , Matt Verri

Martial's yellow card is wiped off - Young avoids a second yellow. Lucky there.

Anyway, Rashford to take the penalty.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:38 , Matt Verri

Everton yet to pick up from where they left off before the break.

Everton 0-1 Man United

47 mins: Garner absolutely flies in on Fernandes, advantage played.

Ball rolls through to McTominay, who lets fly from 25 yards out. Well over the bar.

Up and running for the second-half.

For the xG fans among you...

17:32 , Matt Verri

Basically, Everton should be in front!

Hosts piling on the pressure

17:26 , Matt Verri

Everton had ten shots in the opening 45 minutes, four of those on target.

Just two efforts for Man United, but one of those was the one that matters. A ridiculous finish from Garnacho.

Have to feel that Everton will get something from this match though, unless United improve significantly.

Everton have come close!

17:21 , Matt Verri

Mainoo making his first Premier League start and he's been as good as anyone on the pitch.

Crucial intervention here to keep his side in front...

That is half-time.

United in front through an extraordinary overhead kick from Garnacho.

Since then, Everton have been the better side by a mile. Could easily have scored two or three goals, but they have been so wasteful.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:16 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Two minutes added on.

Everton don't want this half to end, they're completely on top. United doing everything they can to slow things down.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:13 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Add another one to the list.

Calvert-Lewin flicks the ball inside to Doucore, Gueye takes it off him inside the box but shanks an effort high and wide.

No composure at all from the hosts - they've had everything else.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:12 , Matt Verri

41 mins: How many chances are they going to waste?

A great cross into the middle from Young, Calvert-Lewin gets up well but he powers the header well over the bar.

Everton, obviously, need to take one of these.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:10 , Matt Verri

39 mins: Free-kick just inside the United half for Everton - that's good enough for Pickford to take it and launch the ball into the box!

Branthwaite tries to make something happen as the ball drops free, but Maguire does really well to see it out of play.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:08 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Doucoure a bit late into the challenge, needs to be very careful already on a yellow card.

Gueye then a bit too keen to close down McTominay - United happy to slow things down with these free-kicks.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:06 , Matt Verri

35 mins: You'd think it's stoppage-time, the pace this match is being played at now.

Mainoo has to throw his body in the way to deflect McNeil's effort behind for a corner. United cannot get out.

They half clear the corner, but every United player is still back in their own half.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:04 , Matt Verri

33 mins: Everton are RAMPANT.

Rashford robbed out wide, not strong enough.

McNeil pulls the ball back perfectly for Doucoure, completely free in the box and he guides the first-time shot wide of the far post. Onana didn't move.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:03 , Matt Verri

32 mins: United hanging on for dear life.

Calvert-Lewin pokes an effort at goal, Onana parries it straight out. The goalkeeper gets a touch on McNeil's effort, ball rolls towards the goal.... Mainoo slides in to clear off the line!

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:02 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Should be 1-1!

Massive chance. Garner clips the corner in, Calvert-Lewin of all people is unmarked but he sends the header straight at Onana.

Had to score from there.

Everton 0-1 Man United

17:00 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Garnacho kicks the ball away, referee isn't looking though.

Doucoure charges over to the official, demanding a yellow card is shown. He gets his wish... not quite how he'd hoped though. The Everton midfielder is booked for dissent.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:59 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Garnacho away down the left, Branthwaite quickly across to meet him though and Young gets back too as Everton slam the door shut.

United happy enough for now to just try and pick their moments on the counter.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:57 , Matt Verri

26 mins: That set-piece comes to nothing, but a poor ball from Lindelof gifts the momentum straight back to Everton.

The hosts are having their best spell - United starting to be put under pressure.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:55 , Matt Verri

24 mins: This match is not far away from boiling over, in this atmosphere.

McTominay manages to foul Gueye and Young at the same time, good effort. Free-kick out wide for Everton.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:52 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Dear me - wild hack from Young and he boots Garnacho three feet into the air.

Yellow card for the former United man and he doesn't bother to complain about that. Terrible challenge.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:51 , Matt Verri

20 mins: Everton should make more of a decent chance, starting to offer a threat.

Garner slides a nice pass through to Gueye, who stands a ball up to the back post. All the blue shirts in the box had pulled away for a cut-back though, nobody there to nod home.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:49 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Nothing like Onana messing around to get the Everton fans going again.

Goalkeeper takes a poor touch, very nearly rolls out of play for a corner before he boots it out for a throw-in.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:46 , Matt Verri

15 mins: No expense spared on the firework budget. They're still going off.

Everton at least having a bit more possession now, but they're yet to really get going. Loose pass from Gueye and that brief bright spell ends.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:44 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Rashford wins a corner for the visitors, just as some fireworks go off outside the stadium. It's all going on.

Fernandes pings the corner out to the edge of the area, Shaw running onto it... over the bar on the half-volley. Very decent effort.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:43 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Loud boos throughout the tenth minute of the match, as Everton fans protest their points deduction.

It's got the home fans going again - can the players respond? United comfortable so far.

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:39 , Matt Verri

8 mins: More like it from Everton, snapping into the challenges.

Bit too keen though, whistle goes just as Mainoo makes a pretty poor tackle himself. Home fans not delighted as the decision goes United's way.

16:37 , Matt Verri

Doesn't get any better than this!

Everton 0-1 Man United

16:36 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Everton can't get a kick.

Man United have flown out of the blocks, the crowd are basically silent again and Ten Hag could not have dreamed of a better start.

GOAL! Everton 0-1 Man United | Alejandro Garnacho 3'

16:34 , Matt Verri

THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!

That's one way to quieten down the crowd.

Dalot with the cross to the back post, and it is a STUNNING bicycle kick from Garnacho into the top corner.

Everton 0-0 Man United

16:33 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Rashford on the right for United, with Martial through the middle and Garnacho out on the left.

United seeing plenty of the ball so far, it's been a confident start. McTominay down in the box, thinks he's been fouled. Nobody else does.

KICK-OFF!

16:31 , Matt Verri

Up and running - Goodison is bouncing!

Here we go...

16:28 , Matt Verri

Teams are out onto the pitch at Goodison Park.

A white-hot atmosphere as expected. Cards being held up around the ground - a Premier League logo with 'corrupt' written below it.

Plenty of banners too, and LOUD boos as the Premier League music is played.

Man United's form not terrible

16:25 , Matt Verri

Plenty of questions about Man United this season, with Erik ten Hag under a lot of pressure.

They have though won four of their past five matches in the Premier League, even if a number of those have been unconvincing.

Another win here and things won't be looking too shabby at all, with the top four very much within touching distance.

Ten minutes to go!

16:20 , Matt Verri

Kick-off fast approaching.

Reminder that Ten Hag won't be on the touchline this afternoon, due to picking up three yellow cards already this season.

Like Mauricio Pochettino was at Newcastle yesterday, the United boss will be watching on from the stands.

The Man United boss has been speaking ahead of kick-off...

Dyche's pre-match message to Everton fans

16:10 , Matt Verri

"Something we can control is how everyone who cares deeply about Everton Football Club pulls together once again - as players, staff and supporters," he writes in his programme notes.

"I mentioned the importance of that when I first arrived here. We have seen how impactful that energy can be and now is a time to reinforce that collective attitude, align ourselves and look after Everton FC, both on and off the pitch.

"It is the fabric of what makes this club special. Since I walked through the door, I have seen a group of players and a fanbase who have given everything for the benefit of Everton.

"I can’t thank you enough for that and we will need more of the same to face the obvious challenges that lie ahead of us. Together, we can move forward and get to where we want to be."

Antony absence explained

16:04 , Matt Verri

No Antony in the squad for Man United this afternoon.

It's reported that the Brazilian picked up a knock in training, and was not deemed fit for this match.

Doesn't sound like it's a serious issue.

As it stands...

15:58 , Matt Verri

In today's earlier kick-off, Aston Villa are 2-1 up in north London against Tottenham heading into stoppage-time.

That result, should it stay the same, means Man United will be just four points off the top four if they can win at Goodison Park.

And only six off the top of the table...

Ten Hag warns Man United over atmosphere

15:51 , Matt Verri

Erik ten Hag is expecting a “mad” atmosphere inside Goodison Park this afternoon.

It is the first time the Toffees have played since a seismic ten-point reduction from the Premier League for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

"It's always about us. I can see the opposition, I can see they are mad,” said Ten Hag.

“Finally, it's about us.

"If they are mad, that's their fuel, we have to match those standards. If we match the standards we have a very good chance to win the game.

"I don't know the details about [the points deduction], I don't have an opinion. I can imagine Everton fans are very mad. We can do nothing about it. We have to match their standards."

It's pretty much as we expected for Everton.

Amadou Onana not fit, as he continues to battle a calf injury, and so it's Idrissa Gueye in midfield for the hosts.

The big news for Man United is that Luke Shaw is straight back into the starting lineup on his return from injury - real boost for Erik ten Hag.

Dyche: We are rallying

15:23 , Matt Verri

Sean Dyche is expecting a positive response from Everton to their off-field troubles.

He said: "I spoke to the group and said, 'look, the league table is one thing but I don't change my story very often and I believe the final league table is the truth of the season, and I'm not going to change now'.

"For sure, it changes the viewpoint but it doesn't change what we're doing. In fact it enhances what we're doing. We need to go harder, stronger. This is what it is. It's been about refocus as much as anything.

"The group have been very good in themselves. With the characters we've got - Seamus (Coleman) is a good voice, (Ashley) Young, 'Tarky' (James Tarkowski), Jordan (Pickford) and many others by the way - Gana (Idrissa Gueye) with his experience.

"All the senior boys particularly are rallying. It is what it is. Let's get on with it."

Carragher: Ten-point penalty too harsh

15:13 , Matt Verri

Jamie Carragher has insisted Everton's ten-point deduction is "excessive and not right", as he took aim at other Premier League clubs under investigation.

Everton have already declared they will appeal the “wholly disproportionate and unjust" decision, but for now Sean Dyche's side are set for another relegation battle.

Manchester City were charged with 115 breaches of financial regulations in February, covering the period between 2009 and 2018 in which the club won the Premier League three times. They have also been accused of failing to cooperate with the investigation too.

Carragher has claimed Everton's sanction is too harsh, as he contrasted the Toffees' attitude towards the investigation with other clubs in the division.

"The 10 point deduction for Everton is excessive & not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years," he tweeted.

"Would it have been better to be evasive & try & drag it out like other clubs?"

Tributes paid to Venables

15:06 , Matt Verri

Tributes have poured in for Terry Venables after the former England manager died aged 80.

Venables, who managed England from 1994 to 1996 and led them to the semi-finals of Euro 96, passed away following a long illness.

He also had spells in charge of Barcelona, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and QPR.

Former England forward Gary Lineker said: “[I'm] devastated to hear that Terry Venables has died. The best, most innovative coach that I had the privilege and pleasure of playing for.

“He was much more, though, than just a great manager. He was vibrant, he was charming, he was witty, he was a friend. He’ll be hugely missed. Sending love and condolences to Yvette and the family. RIP Terry."

Former England captain Alan Shearer said: “Extremely sad news. The great Terry Venables has passed away. RIP Boss. I owe you so much. You were amazing.”

In a long tribute on social media, former England defender Gary Neville said: “So sorry to hear the news of my very first England coach, Terry Venables. A man who gave me a chance to play for my country and became without a shadow of doubt my No1 England coach in my whole career."

Onana set to feature

14:56 , Matt Verri

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana hopes to return for the trip to Everton despite suffering up a groin injury on international duty.

Onana felt pain when making a save for Cameroon in their 3-0 victory over Mauritius on Friday and had to be substituted. But his withdrawal has been described as precautionary.

Onana flew back to Manchester on Sunday and trained twice with United, missing Cameroon's draw with Libya.

He is expected to be passed fit to play at Goodison Park, with understudy Altay Bayindir ready to deputise should Onana not be deemed fit.

Dyche addresses ten-point penalty

14:47 , Matt Verri

Sean Dyche has urged Everton to quickly refocus after the "shock" of their "disproportionate" Premier League points deduction.

The ten-point sanction is the largest delivered in Premier League history and was met with a stunned reaction from Everton, who said they were "shocked and disappointed" by what they called a "disproportionate and unjust" punishment that they will appeal.

"I think like everyone, certainly in these parts, I was shocked and seemingly from the wave of noise after that, most people in football are shocked by the enormity of it," Dyche told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday as he publicly addressed the deduction for the first time.

"Disproportionate is a word used by the club. Obviously we feel a bit aggrieved by that, but on the other hand it doesn't change the focus. The focus since I got there is sorting things out on the pitch, getting the team to win."

Mount set for spell on sidelines

14:39 , Matt Verri

Mason Mount has suffered an injury setback that could keep him on the sidelines for a number of weeks.

The Manchester United midfielder will miss the trip to Everton with a calf problem, adding to Erik ten Hag's fitness issues.

It is rumoured that the 24-year-old could be out for up to a month. That will mean him missing next week's crunch Champions League game away to Galatasaray, for which Marcus Rashford is also suspended.

United then face Newcastle, Mount's old club Chelsea, Bournemouth, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and West Ham in the run up to Christmas.

The December 6 visit of Chelsea to Old Trafford was set to be Mount's first game against the club he joined as a boy, before leaving for an initial £55million last summer.

Mount has managed 12 appearances for United since signing, having also missed a few weeks of action due to an injury suffered at the end of August.

Going to be some atmosphere at Goodison in a couple of hours...

Ten Hag not on touchline

14:22 , Matt Verri

Erik ten Hag has spoken of his confidence in his Manchester United backroom staff ahead of this afternoon's clash.

The Red Devils manager is banned from the touchline at Goodison Park having accumulated three yellow cards during the Premier League season so far.

That means he is unable to enter the dressing before, during or after the game along with having to watch from the stands - however, he can communicate instructions to his staff.

United's coaching staff will therefore handle matters from the dugout with Ten Hag's assistant Mitchel van der Gaag leading the team.

Veteran coach Steve McClaren is another member of the backroom team set to help lead the players along with Eric Ramsay and Benni McCarthy.

"I’m quite confident," Ten Hag told MUTV.

"I will have an even better view [from the stands], but we have a very good backroom staff. They are very capable and experienced, so they know what to do. That will not affect our game."

Hefty penalty for Everton

14:11 , Matt Verri

In case you have somehow missed the news...

Everton have been handed a ten-point deduction over breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules in a move that immediately plunges the club into a relegation fight.

The penalty is the heftiest ever dished out by the League and will see Sean Dyche’s side slip from their previous position of 14th to second-bottom, above Burnley only on goal-difference.

The Merseyside club said it was “both shocked and disappointed” by the sanction, which it called “wholly disproportionate and unjust”.

The Toffees have already announced their intention to launch an appeal, which must be heard by the end of the season.

Everton have used Goodison to their advantage during relegation battles before and the conditions look perfect for an upset.

Not playing badly themselves, it would hardly be a surprise to see them win.

Everton to win 2-1.

A decision will be taken on Saturday about whether Rasmus Hojlund can feature after the striker suffered a muscle strain in the second half of the win over Luton just before the November international break.
