The Windsor Half Marathon 2022, due to take place on Sunday, September 25, has been cancelled.

Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown Estate informed event organisers on September 12 that it felt it would be inappropriate for the Windsor Half Marathon to take place this year.

Organisers informed participants on September 13, posting the following message on Facebook:

'We are truly shattered to tell you that we have had to cancel the 2022 Windsor Half Marathon. Notification was received from the Crown Estate late yesterday afternoon explaining why we can't go ahead.

'We know it is as devastating to you as it is for us, but it is totally out of our control. We guarantee that you will be deferred to 2023 when we look forward to welcoming you to Windsor Great Park under much happier circumstances.'

The Crown Estate told organisers that, as the event takes place in the shadow of the Castle and will be doing so less than a week after Her Majesty is laid to rest, 'we feel that it is just not possible for your event to take place. The Estate may also still be observing a period of Royal mourning.'

You can read the full letter here.

All entries will be deferred to next year, with the event taking place on September 24, 2023.
