Ex-Manchester United striker can't believe he didn't get Sunderland head coach job
DWIGHT Yorke says he can't believe he was overlooked for the Sunderland job.
The former Manchester United and Sunderland striker says he applied for the vacancy and claims he was baffled he didn't get his chance at the Stadium of Light.
Yorke's only managerial experience is a 13-game spell in charge of Macarthur in Australia, but he says his knowledge of Sunderland and the Championship would have stood him in good stead in the dugout on Wearside.
"The Sunderland situation is a bit worrying, they clearly didn't want a good manager when I offered myself to them," he said in an interview with Best Online Poker Sites.
"I don't know how I get overlooked, I know the Championship is a tough league, but I've played in it and won it, I know Sunderland as a club and my ambition of managing in the Premier League fits in with Sunderland's ambition to get promoted."

Sunderland's search for a new head coach came to an end last week when Regis Le Bris took charge, with the 48-year-old set to officially start work on Monday.
Yorke, who made 59 league appearances in a three-year stay on Wearside at the end of his playing career, said: "Sunderland have offered the job to someone who doesn't have the experience of competing in the Championship but may have slightly more experience as a manager than me.
"Often enough, we see those experienced managers struggle and the ones who are hungry, like me, can drive these clubs to success."
