Dele Alli has denied he demanded a penthouse upgrade at a glitzy London hotel in the early hours of Monday morning.

A video of Alli and England teammate Ross Barkley in animated discussion with hotel staff was shared on social media following England’s win over Croatia on Sunday night.

Footage showed the Tottenham midfielder talking and gesturing as he leaned on the reception desk alongside Barkley, allegedly at 5am in the morning.

A member of the concierge team then intervenes to diffuse the matter before the video cuts short.

The man who filmed the clip, which is 36 seconds long, makes various unsubstantiated accusations about their conversation, which cannot be heard clearly on video.

One of the claims was that Alli was demanding an upgrade to a £3000-a-night penthouse suite.

However, a spokesman for the 22-year-old, said: “He was not staying at the hotel, so clearly could not have been demanding an upgrade.”

Rival football fans have also been quick to jump to the pair’s defence and criticised the bystander who filmed it, claiming there is no evidence either one of them is drunk or aggressive as claimed.

One Twitter follower said: “Looks more like an Arsenal fan trying to have a pop at Spurs and Chelsea players to me.

“Doesn’t look like they’re doing much wrong to be honest. Couple of young lads returning after a night out.”

“Seen that Dele Alli and Ross Barkley video. Doesn’t look like they are doing much wrong to me,” added Manchester City fan on Twitter, while a Newcastle supporter offered a longer critique.

“Hold on, there’s a video of Ross Barkley and Dele Alli p***** in a hotel and people are saying it’s a disgrace?

“How? They are on a break from club football just after helping their country get to a tournament semi final.

“They not allowed to have a night out like?

Chelsea, the hotel, Tottenham, and the FA have all so far refused to comment on the incident.

A Millwall supported added: “Dele Alli and Barkley p***** up and having a drunken rant. Who gives a f***. Let them be.”
