The wait to find out who will be leading the Swindon Town men's first-team next season continues.

Fans commenting on social media and the Adver website comments section have expressed their frustration that an announcement on who will be the club's next manager has not arrived a week and a half after the regular League Two season came to an end.

Former Bradford boss Derek Adams appeared to be a front-runner for the job vacated by Michael Flynn in January. The 48-year-old resigned from his role at Ross County in February and has been spotted at the County Ground since.

Respected sports journalist Alan Nixon has also reported that Adams is being considered by Swindon, and says talks have taken place between the two parties.

It is also possible that interim manager Gavin Gunning, who took over from Flynn and presided over the club's worst-ever league finish in the months that followed, could be given the role on a permanent basis.

Speaking about Gunning previously, owner Clem Morfuni has said: "He has great knowledge of football, he knows the level and has a good rapport with the players."

Gunning has himself has said he believes his work in changing the style of play of the team and the general performance levels in his time in charge makes him a worthy candidate.

Fans have started to express their feelings on social media, pointing to the fact there have been no advisory board minutes published for March or April, and no mission statement from the club for the coming season.

Swindon Town podcast The Loathed Strangers said: "An interim manager has been in place at Swindon Town for almost five months with no updates on how the process is going.

"The fanbase will only reach the usual conclusions: Utter disregard for the fans, gross incompetence financial struggles, all of the above."

Another added: "Gavin Gunning is in contention for a job that in the half-season he took control of finished with a 23 per cent win rate and the club finished with its worst position in a four-tier system. Something’s not right."

A third person said: "The longer the non-announcement of a manager drags on, and the lower the season ticket sales and the more restless fans become, the more likely it seems that Clem Morfuni will appoint Charlie [Austin] as manager.

"Clem Morfuni has a track record when under pressure to bring in a crowd fave to calm things down."

At the time of writing, there is no indication of when an official announcement might come from the club.
