Gernot Trauner, the Austrian center-back and captain of Dutch side Feyenoord, has told Liverpool what it can expect from new head coach Arne Slot, who will soon take over from Jürgen Klopp at Anfield.

Slot was selected by Michael Edwards and the Liverpool data team after an extensive search. While Xabi Alonso, Rúben Amorim and others were considered, the 45-year-old was deemed the best fit in the end and while he will officially start his duties on June 1, Slot has already been spotted dining in a restaurant on the edge of the city.

"Of course it hurts us," Trauner told Flashscore. "We would have liked to have had him with us for longer. But I'm not crying for him because it was clear that he would take the next step at some point. It was only a matter of time before he found the right club. Liverpool and Arne Slot could be a perfect match. I wish him all the best.

"He was a very important factor in me coming to Feyenoord and has always relied on me. He's a tremendous specialist and has incredible ideas in terms of ball possession, build-up play and positioning. A lot of detail in running and passing. There is no pass without an idea behind it. He tries to move the opponents and find open spaces.

"He has a very good feel for what he has to tell the team in meetings, how he has to treat people, and whether he has to tickle someone. He is of a very, very high level. I can definitely imagine that things will also go very well for him in the Premier League."

Liverpool.com says: Slot does seem like a really nice fit for Liverpool. Stylistically, he is the right man for the role and he will have an extensive team behind him doing work on transfers, contracts and other things that a coach doesn't seem to focus his focus their time on. He will only need to ensure he gets the best out of a talented squad of players.

The only question mark is how well Slot can adapt to the pressure of working at such a big club. That would have been the case with any new arrival, though. Ultimately, the only way to find out if Slot can cope is by giving him a go. His opening press conference will tell us plenty about how he is feeling ahead of the new season.
