Feyenoord star has just given the game away about Arne Slot as Liverpool appointment nears

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has dropped a clear hint that Arne Slot will be on his way to Liverpool this summer.

Slot has already agreed to replace Jurgen Klopp as the Reds' boss after the two clubs reached a financial agreement over a deal, though neither club has officially confirmed this impending appointment.

The Feyenoord coach has given plenty of clues that he will be heading to Merseyside in the coming weeks, most recently after his side's 5-0 win over PEC Zwolle, who took to the pitch to wave goodbye to supporters in the stadium.

On target during this match was the Dutch side's leading scorer, Gimenez, who was quizzed on Slot when speaking after the full-time whistle. Asked what makes his manager so special, the Mexican replied: "It was a big step (for me) to come from Mexico to the Netherlands and he gave me confidence.

"He always pushed me to be better. I am really grateful to Arne, I hope he can do well everywhere. As a person and as a coach, he is complete. He understands when to tell you that you did well, and also when to tell you if you did bad. That is a big advantage of Arne, he can talk really well with the players. Arne's style is attack, attack, attack."

A slip of the tongue then saw Gimenez seemingly give the game away regarding what the future holds for Slot, speaking in the past tense when discussing the tenure of the 45-year-old. "He deserves the world, he made wonderful memories. We are happy he was - well, is - our coach," the 23-year-old told The Daily Mail.

Addressing his future on Sunday evening, Slot said: “I’m not worried at all about whether it will go ahead – the question is when it will be communicated. I think I agree on that, that it looked like that [a farewell]. Because of all the rumours in the media, I think they are expecting me to leave. Yeah, that is something we could say."
