Will there be a Firefly Lane season 3 on Netflix?

Firefly Lane is *finally* back on our screens, as the show returned for season two part one on 2 December.

There's still plenty more in store, with the second S2 instalment dropping on Netflix at a later date. However, despite not having watched all of season two yet, viewers have already got their sights set on a season three. So, will Firefly Lane get a season three, and what can fans expect?

To recap, the newly-released season two jumps back in with long-term friends Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Sarah (Kate Mularkey). Of course, there was a huge S1 cliffhanger to contend with: Kate banned Tully from attending her father's funeral, announcing that their friendship is done, with Tully asking to be forgiven. However, viewers were left in the dark as to exactly how Tully had betrayed Kate, leaving plenty of fertile plot ground for season two.

We'll need to wait for season two part two to arrive before finding out exactly how things finish between Tully and Kate, which will help with predicting what could be in store for any future instalments. Here's all we know about what's to come.

Will Firefly Lane get a season 3?

Sadly, we won't be getting a Firefly Lane season three, as Netflix has confirmed that season two will be the final series for the show.

The streamer announced the news in early October. Posting about season two, lead cast member Katherine Heigl reiterated on Instagram, "Firefly Lane Girls are back! We can’t wait to share the second and final season with you all on December 2nd." *Cries*.

The actress then went on to confirm that Firefly Lane will conclude in 2023 with season two part two.

Still, we're holding out hope for a future reboot or spin off!

Why is Firefly Lane ending?

We're obviously gutted about the news, but Netflix has a pretty good reason for ending Firefly Lane after just two seasons. That's because the series is actually based on a pair of novels by bestselling author Kristin Hannah, titled Firefly Lane and Fly Away.

Season one covered the events of the first novel, while season two takes the second. So, it makes sense that with no more books to draw from there's nowhere else for Firefly Lane to go. Unless Hannah decides to write a follow up, that is! We can dream, right?

As for now, we'll be patiently waiting on the rest of season two.
