Fixture release day has been and gone, with fans of all teams now knowing where they will be and when.

While many in Berkshire remain fearful of what is to come as a protracted takeover rumbles on, it is still hard not to get some tingles of excitement for a clean slate and another fresh division to attack.

Take a look below at five exciting fixtures the Royals faithful can look forward to in 2024/25.

Birmingham City

Reading open their account at St Andrew's on August 10, kicking off at 5.30 pm.

Blues, regular foes over the years, are back down in the third tier for the first time in over 30 years and have retained some feel-good factor despite relegation with new American owners.

A full house at St Andrew's is always a difficult place to play, although the Royals have enjoyed some positive results up there over recent years.

The first chance to suss out of favourites for promotion, Ruben Selles' side have been given one of the toughest opening fixtures available.

Wrexham

Another club back in the third tier after a long time away, the Red Dragons are a team everyone wants to beat due to their famous Hollywood owners and popular documentary.

But for the Royals, the Bank Holiday trip to North Wales (August 24) is a reunion with a legend.

Phil Parkinson, still sung about every Christmastime, plaRECENT ARTICLES: Allyed over 350 times for Reading in the 1990s and 2000s before embarking on a successful EFL managerial career.

Since arriving at the Racecourse Ground, 'Parky' has led the club to two promotions and a first League One campaign for over 20 years.

His homecoming to RG2 comes in January.

Wycombe Wanderers

Statistically the nearest EFL club, the Chairboys' rise out of non-league in the 1990s has meant very few meetings and therefore little animosity between two neighbours.

However, 'Bearwood-gate' last season has left many a back up amongst Royals supporters and has made it a game to watch out for.

Add into the mix the potential for former Wycombe owner Rob Couhig to rock up at the SCL Stadium and you get one memorable meeting.

Charlton Athletic

Every Reading fan's favourite type of away day is a London one.

This year, there are two options: Leyton Orient or Charlton.

Losing both last year in disastrous fashion, Royals fans are overdue a win in the capital.

The Valley, one of the most impressive grounds in the division, allows for over 3,000 away supporters and inevitably another Reading sell-out will follow Selles' team to East London.

Coming on January 4, it may be chilly but hopefully, hands remain warm with rapturous applause for a Reading win.

Mansfield Town

Everyone loves a ground hop, and when a new season begins the first games scouted out are ones at new stadiums.

The One Call Stadium may not be new- officially the oldest EFL stadium, but Reading have not played there for over 30 years.

For a whole new generation of Royals  supporters, Easter Monday will prove the first occasion to visit the Stags with the club.
