Five Minutemen to be inducted into Concord Athletics Hall of Fame

Mar. 14—ELKHART — Concord High School announced Thursday its five-member 2024 induction class into its Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dana Charlesworth Barringer, Tom Gifford, Amy Trout Miller, Brad Myers and Craig Shafer make up the inductees to be celebrated May 3 at The Matterhorn Restaurant in Elkhart.

Barringer (Class of 2001) earned nine varsity letters across her participation in girls track, basketball and soccer. Helping win two Northern Lakes Conference, sectional and regional titles, Barringer continued her soccer career at Ball State University.

Gifford (Class of 2000) earned three letters during his four years playing on the Minutemen baseball team. During his junior season, Gifford pitched a complete game while hitting a grand slam and a game-winning three-run home run in a conference game against Goshen.

He later played third base and pitched at Bethel College.

Miller earned nine varsity letters playing volleyball, basketball and softball all four years before becoming a volleyball and softball assistant coach at Concord before taking coaching positions at Wawasee and Fairfield.

Myers coached from 1996-2013 and specialized as a football varsity assistant coach and was part of six NLC championships, five sectional, three regional and two semi-state championships.

Shafer coached at Concord from 1985-2023 and began with girls basketball. As the head coach in 1990-1995, he compiled a record of 60-42 and coached the two best seasons in program history at 17-5 in 1991-92 and finishing 18-3 in 1992-93.

Also coaching track and field, Shafer was most recently an assistant coach on the 2023 Concord football staff, his fourth separate stint with the football program.
