Flu bug hits Tigers for second straight game, dropped by Hornets

Feb. 13—TULSA — For the second straight game, the Tahlequah Tigers didn't have a key scorer and it cost them.

After Donovan Smith missed the last game with the flu, Cash McAlvain was out for the Tigers in their 83-46 loss to the Booker T. Washington Hornets on 6-6. Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The Tigers opened the game down 16-6 in the early goings of the game. Despite this the Tigers hit a strong stretch and put up six straight, cutting the lead down to just four.

After the quick surge, the Tigers fell cold as the Hornets went on their own six-point run to go into the second quarter down 22-12 going into the second quarter.

The Tigers hit the worst stretch during the second quarter. Only one player — Miguel Rodriguez — hit a field goal. Overall the Tigers ended with just three points in the quarter heading into halftime down 49-15.

The Tigers could not dig themselves the hole they dug despite being outscored by just five points.

The Tigers will have a week off before starting Regionals on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
