All roads lead to Accrington Stanley - or at least Robbie Savage's do.

The former Leicester, Derby, Birmingham and Blackburn midfielder is spearheading a campaign to fill Stanley's Wham Stadium - starting with tonight's League Two match against Wycombe.

The club that faded and died in the 1960s and was the butt of a famous TV advert, is now challenging for promotion and victory would lift them into fourth place.

But after a survey* showed that players respond a lot better in front of bigger crowds, they decided to try and remedy Accrington's average home attendances of around 1,500 by launching their 'Full Crowd' campaign.

They are the lowest in the Football League and BBC and BT Sport football pundit Savage told Yahoo Sport: "Heinz Big Soup discovered that too many grounds were only around 25 per cent of their capacity in the lower leagues.

"As proud as these players are to be playing a sport they love for a living, they would do a lot better with some more noise and support behnd them.

"Being a Wrexham fan when Iwas young I can relate totally to that.

"The idea is to get local people to go to local games - Accrington Stanley is a great little club and they are doing brilliantly well.

"I know first-hand how small clubs can respond to big crowds - when I played for Derby we lost to Crawley in the FA Cup and the noise that night was incredible.

"It lifted the players and they were outstanding that night."

With all the talk of Premier League clubs having to cap away tickets at £30, Savage added: "The great thing about going to a place like Accrington Stanley is that you can get your family in for £30.

He added: "There’s nothing better than playing at home and I remember how much I loved the home crowd. I’m really happy to get behind the ‘Full Crowd’ campaign and offer my support to Accrington Stanley so they can feel the crowd behind them.

"It’s been a while since I’ve been to the stadium so it’s great that I’m getting involved and heading back and watching the match with as many local fans as possible.”

Savage will be joining Yahoo Sport's global soccer ambassador Jermaine Jenas at the Wham Stadium tonight, and Stanley boss John Coleman said: “We’re always trying to find new ways of getting our local fans to come down to matches. Although we have a really loyal fan base, we still have room in the stands, and we find having a full stadium behind us helps the team performance.

"We’re so happy to have Robbie and Jermaine down at the game on Wednesday to give us a boost for such an important game.”

Robbie Savage and Heinz Big Soup are calling on fans to fill up the stadium of Accrington Stanley FC, ahead of their upcoming match on 16th March 2016. Heinz Big Soup, which encourages fans to ‘Go Big or Go Hungry’ will also be giving away match tickets and serving up bowls of Big Soup to keep supporters feeling full during the match.
