A man has revealed he cannot "even look at myself in the mirror" after being slashed in the face during violent scenes between Everton and Millwall fans.

Jay Burns posted a picture of himself on Facebook showing a long scar down the right of his face alongside a post that said he was "absolutely devastated about my face."

It comes after the Metropolitan Police stated a man in his twenties was slashed in the face in a violence clash believed to be between opposing Millwall and Everton fans. The two teams played each other in the fourth round of the FA Cup at The Den on south London, with the home side snatching a late winner.

Mr Burns, who was taken to a south London hospital and required stitches across the length of his face, wrote:  "Absolutely devastated about my face. Nice one to all the Everton lads and everyone who has messaged me and the Liverpool lads who have messaged me, much appreciated.

"I can't even look at myself In the mirror. Daft c*** award goes to me again."

Footage on social media circulated showing two rival groups colliding with each on Saturday with police forced to separate large groups of supporters.

Detective Inspector Darren Young, of the South Central Command Unit, said: “The behaviour of those involved in this incident is nothing short of disgraceful and those involved can be certain we will be working to identify them.

"We are aware of the video circulating online, which has quite rightly elicited shock and disgust."

Meanwhile Millwall face Football Association punishment for racist chanting during the FA Cup victory over Everton, and the club promise to ban for life anybody found guilty.

A video from the game showed Millwall supporters at The Den using racist language in a song discriminating against the Pakistani community.
