Football: Fenerbahce selling star striker's shirt upside down

Just a month after scoring an overhead kick against Manchester United in the Europa League, Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow pulled off another one against Caykur Rizespor on Sunday evening.

Surprisingly, Rizespor took an early lead, however Sow was on hand to equalise soon after. The powerful striker then put his side ahead just five minutes later with the acrobatic effort before scoring a header to wrap up a perfect hat-trick before the half-time whistle.

It was not long before his acrobatic strike kick went viral. Fans started sharing pictures of the star striker upside down and writing his name upside down soon after.

In a clever marketing move the club designed a team shirt with Sow’s name and number upside down in response to his latest goal. Fenerbahce had the shirts prepared and in the official club Fenerium stores within 24 hours. The overhead kick-inspired shirts went on sale on Monday morning and have been in high demand. The unprecedented move by the club was the first time a Super Lig club have made changes to the team shirt in response to a goal being scored.

Sow scored arguably the most stunning goal you will see this season to put Fenerbahce ahead against United at the start of the month but it was not a one off. The 30-year-old is beginning to forge a reputation for the acrobatic.

He has also managed to score in similar fashion against arch rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas – and now has a total of four overhead kick goals in the Turkish Super Lig. Up next for Fener is Istanbul rivals Besiktas and the Black Eagles will be wary of Sow who has scored eight times in his last seven games against the reigning champions.

The Senegal international has five goals and one assist in 12 appearances for the Canaries going into the derby and a win would see them close the gap with second-placed Besiktas to just one point.
