Former County favourite makes surprise switch between League Two clubs

FORMER Newport County AFC defender Cameron Norman has made a shock move between League Two clubs.

The 28-year-old had a season to run on his contract with Milton Keynes Dons but has left for Tranmere Rovers on a two-year deal.

The right-back was a huge hit over two seasons with the Exiles – playing in all 92 league games and bringing up a century of appearances – and it was a surprise that he remained in League Two when his contract expired.

Norman moved to Milton Keynes and made 43 appearances for the Dons, who suffered a play-off semi-final defeat to Crawley.

After being signed by Graham Alexander, the defender was allowed to leave by Dons manager Mike Williamson to chase promotion in Birkenhead.

"It's a great club with big ambitions and I am excited to be a part of it,” said Norman, who can play wing-back, full-back or on the right of a central three.

"As soon as I heard of the interest I was really excited and wanted to pursue it, that only got stronger when I spoke to the manager.

"I had a really good honest conversation about getting the best out of me and the squad here, which is a great squad with lots of really good options."

Tranmere manager Nigel Adkins said: “Cameron Norman further strengthens our squad and the ambition we have.

“He is a consistent and reliable player with a hunger to improve we are delighted he has joined us and are looking forward to working with him.”
