Former Player of the Season joins Stones

Former Watford defender Adrian Mariappa has returned near to where he was born by signing for Wealdstone.

The 37-year-old, who was born and raised in Harrow, has bolstered the club’s defensive options as they prepare for the new National League season.

"Adrian has a fantastic pedigree and for us to secure his signature is a huge bonus for the football club," Stones manager Matt Taylor told the club website. "He will be a big character within the squad and his leadership skills will be vital for the upcoming season."

The Jamaican international has moved to Grosvenor Vale after leaving Salford City last month, having made more than 500 appearances during his 19-year playing career.

Over 300 of those were made during his time at Vicarage Road where he graduated from the Academy. He made his debut in 2005, establishing himself as a key figure in the backline that culminated in him winning Player of the Season in 2012 before he moved to Reading.

Mariappa then joined Crystal Palace in 2013 and spent three seasons at Selhurst Park, returning to Vicarage Road for a second spell in 2016 which lasted four years.
