BLACKPOOL have signed former Wanderers loanee Zac Ashworth on a permanent deal from West Bromwich Albion.

The left-sided midfielder has signed a three-year deal at Bloomfield Road after Bolton passed on the chance to sign him this summer.

Ashworth made 23 appearances for the Whites last season, scoring on his debut against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and adding two more goals in the league against Carlisle United and Barnsley.

The youngster fell out of favour in the last few months of the season and though Wanderers had set a fee with West Brom, they opted not to take up the deal.

Wales Under-21 Ashworth came through the Hawthorns youth system and made his first team debut in January 2022 against Brighton in the FA Cup before enjoying a successful loan with Burton Albion.

He becomes Blackpool’s third signing of the summer, joining strikers Jordan Rhodes and Ashley Fletcher.

Speaking on his arrival at the club, he said: “I’m over the moon to be here and really excited for what’s to come.

“Blackpool is a massive club, and this is a great opportunity for a fresh start. The gaffer was a big factor in the move. After speaking to him and discussing what he thinks I can offer, he made me really want to play for him and for the team.

“I’ve had such a warm welcome from everyone and can’t wait to meet the lads in training this week and get going in Tangerine.”
