Former Wanderers man Nolan leaves West Ham coaching role

Former Wanderers midfielder Kevin Nolan has left West Ham after a four-year spell with the Premier League outfit.

Nolan, who captained the Hammers to promotion from the Championship during his playing days, returned to the club in 2020 as part of David Moyes’ backroom staff.

The 41-year-old has been a key figure on the touchline in recent years and was part of the Europa Conference League success last year.

Earlier this month, West Ham confirmed Moyes would be stepping down from his role amid reports Julen Lopetegui will become the new boss at the London Stadium.

Nolan is one of eight staff members who are also leaving - along with Billy McKinlay, John Heitinga, Harry Newman, Rob Newman, Alan Irvine, Nick Davies and Jamie Osman - the confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement read: “All four provided support to David Moyes during his time as manager, as the club secured three top-nine Premier League finishes, reached the latter stages of three UEFA competitions and won the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League.

“Former midfielder Nolan, who captained the Hammers to promotion at Wembley in 2012, was appointed to Moyes’ backroom staff in February 2020.

“A valuable link between the manager and the dressing room, the 41-year-old was a visible presence on the touchline as the Hammers enjoyed four impressive seasons.

“The club would like to thank Billy, Kevin, John, Henry, Rob, Alan, Nick and Jamie for their hard work, commitment and dedication to West Ham United and wish each of them all the very best in the future.”

West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League this season, eight points behind eighth-place Manchester United.

The Hammers were beaten 3-1 at the Etihad on the final day as Manchester City clinched their fourth successive title, finishing two points clear of Arsenal.
