Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez gave Arne Slot the perfect encapsulation of what he is all about as the Copa America kicked off for Uruguay in the United States. The 25-year-old scored his first goal of the tournament in Florida but that wasn't the only thing that stood out during his appearance.

Nunez made it 2-0 to his side on 85 minutes but there was still a chance for another goal for each of the teams, with the match ending 3-1 to Uruguay. The Liverpool man's goal was a left-footed strike from the middle of the box after a counter-attack. The chances are, it will have come as a big relief to get off the mark.

Earlier in the game, Nunez had missed one big chance when a cross from the right from Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde was perfectly set up for him to hit first time from the center of the penalty area. He could only hit it directly at the goalkeeper on that occasion, failing to get a proper contact on the ball.

On another occasion, he was played through on goal but couldn't quite get his first touch right, allowing a defender to come back in and make enough of a challenge to win the ball back. He tried to pass in the end when a good first touch and shot would have seen a much more positive outcome.

And Nunez also put the ball wide when through on goal from about eight yards out, albeit from an angle. While he did find the back of net late in the game, Nunez should have had a hat-trick.

It was in many ways a typical Nunez performance. He missed two so-called 'big chances' despite having fewer touches than any other outfield player on the pitch and had five shots overall. He created a chance for his team and also found the back of the net with a well-taken left-footed volley, which was comfortably the hardest of the hardest opportunities that came his way.

Liverpool.com says: Nunez is a real conundrum. How often have we seen a performance like this at Anfield? It's fine when he does score and his team wins but a more clinical striker would have been walking away with the match ball.

There are times when the easy stuff just needs to be taken care of or it can come back to bite you. That is the big improvement that Nunez needs to make in the upcoming season and it will be up to Slot to help him take the next step.
