Full transfer details as Michael Carrick explains Middlesbrough Aidan Morris delight

MICHAEL Carrick told of his delight after Middlesbrough completed the signing of their top midfield target Aidan Morris.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal on Teesside after completing the formalities of his switch from Columbus Crew for a fee believed to be in the region of £3m.

Bolstering the midfield department was a key priority for Boro this summer and Morris was scouted extensively over the course of the last 14 months.

He made more than 100 appearances for Columbus Crew and has five senior caps for the United States.

"We're delighted to welcome Aidan to the club," head coach Carrick told the club website.

"He's a good player. He suits our style of play, he's strong, he likes to get on the ball, and he plays off both feet. He's a good age, but he's already had a taste of success and he has a good amount of experience.

"We're excited to work with him."

Morris's arrival continues what has been a hugely encouraging start to the summer, with the midfielder following Luke Ayling and Delano Burgzorg through the door at the Riverside.

Carrick this week told of how getting business done early was a key "focus" for Boro, with several boxes ticked just a week into pre-season. Boro are still keen on adding another striker to their ranks this summer but will be patient on that front.

Morris will further bolster a midfield department that includes Hayden Hackney, captain Jonny Howson and Dan Barlaser. Barlaser has been linked with a move to Trabzonspor but there's not yet been any contact between Boro and the Turkish outfit.

The highly-rated Law McCabe is another midfield option for Carrick, with the academy graduate having enjoyed an impressive breakthrough last term.

It was one in, one out for Boro on Friday, with full-back Bryant Bilongo joining Bristol Rovers on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old said: “My career has been such a journey so far and to continue it by signing for such a big club like Rovers is amazing for me and my family. It’s a big achievement and this is a challenge I’m looking forward to."
