Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has admitted that the club must have the 'best players' to become champions after they fell short in the Premier League title race once again.

The Gunners took Manchester City to the final day in the 2023/24 season but failed to end their long wait to be crowned English champions. It is now two straight years that the Citizens have pipped the north Londoners to the title following two eventful title races.

Last summer, Arsenal signed Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya in hope of toppling City. Now, the Gunners will be looking to further strengthen their ranks to lift the Premier League title for the first time in over 20 years.

Since the summer transfer window opened, plenty of players have been linked. As well as a potential Thomas Partey replacement, the North Londoners have been tipped to finally solve their issues in front of goal with Victor Gyokeres the latest name linked.

There have been calls for Edu Gaspar to sign quality back-ups to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martinelli and William Saliba, with the trio playing a large portion of the game's last season with little rest.

Asked about the club's transfer plans, Martinelli insisted the club must look at bringing the best players in the world to the club. "Everyone who plays for Arsenal, one of the best teams in the world, is very, very good," he said.

"The club has to have the best players to have a chance of being champions. We have an outstanding team with many players of incredible quality. Edu and Mikel Arteta make the decisions regarding signings. It depends on them.

"The fans are happy when quality players come and improve the team. That issue is not our concern. We have to work on the field and leave signings to them."
