Gareth Bale has secured a role in the world of golf following his retirement from football. He's set to serve as an ambassador for Steph Curry's 'Underrated Golf' for their inaugural European Tour.

Bale, 34, hung up his football boots after captaining Wales at the 2022 World Cup and following a career boasting five-time Champions League wins. The former Tottenham star stirred up debates when he celebrated Wales's qualification for the 2020 European Championship with a flag reading "Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order".

Having created controversy within his final years at Real Madrid with his penchant for golf, Bale has played up to it since. Even before he retired, he was serving as a global ambassador for The RandA and is now stepping into another golf-related role.

Not long after being present courtside at a Golden State Warriors game in Los Angeles and accepting a signed jersey from NBA superstar Curry, Bale confirmed his participation in Curry's golf venture. He also hinted this move at the time, reports the Mirror.

He shared an Instagram photo with Curry, swapping jerseys and teased about something exciting coming up by captioning the picture: "What a night watching these guys play up close. Great to see you [Stephen Curry] Excited for what's to come!"

He rounded off the caption with a golf swing and basketball emoji, adding the hashtag: "Underrated". In another snap, Curry sports a black cap emblazoned with the Underrated logo while posing next to Bale.

After hosting events for young golfers across the US for two years, Underrated is now teeing off in Europe. Bale is teaming up with ex-Ladies European Tour pro and Sky Sports host Henni Koyack as an ambassador. His role will involve drawing athletes to participate in their tournaments and providing them with mentorship and support.

Bale has previously championed junior golf through his work with Wales Golf, where he hosted the Gareth Bale Festival of Sport and Golf Championship. He's joining the ranks of Underrated Golf just in time for their inaugural European event at Walton Heath Golf Course this May.

"It's an honour to join Stephen Curry and his Underrated Golf European Tour as ambassador as they expand their presence internationally this year," Bale said in a press release. "I've admired the work the tour has done in the U.S. to grow the game of golf, a sport I love and believe in the vast opportunities it provides.

"My role as an ambassador allows me to fuse my enthusiasm for the sport with my passion for creating multi-faced sports opportunities for youth within Wales, and I look forward to seeing the young athletes' skills when they step out on the greens at Walton Heath this May."

The regional tournament on the outskirts of London will span two days and is a 36-hole stroke play event. It will feature 96 players aged 12 to 18 coming from across the continent, split evenly between boys and girls divisions.

Two trophies will be up for grabs, and the winners will advance to the Curry Cup Tour Championship in early September. Bale began his career at Southampton, before a move to Spurs in 2007 shot him into stardom following his positional switch from left-back to left-wing.

While at Spurs, he was named in UEFA's Team of the Year twice and won the League Cup in 2008. He then took his talents to Real Madrid in 2013.
