Georginio Wijnaldum tunnel chat with Kylian Mbappe and Xavi Simmons gets Liverpool fans talking

Former Liverpool ace Georginio Wijnaldum has sparked a Liverpool discussion after footage emerged of him talking to his Netherlands teammate Xavi Simons and France superstar Kylian Mbappe in the tunnel. The three players were talking after the 0-0 draw between the two teams at Euro 2024.

Mbappe himself wasn't involved in the fixture after being limited to a role on the bench after breaking his nose in the opening fixture of the tournament against Austria. Meanwhile, both Wijnaldum and Simons played in the game, with the latter seeing a controversial goal disallowed in the fixture.

Wijnaldum only featured for 18 minutes off the bench but it was his actions after the game that have got fans talking in the aftermath of the draw. The former Liverpool midfielder was pictured speaking in the tunnel with Mbappe and Simons after the game, with the following conversation now being transcribed by users on X (formerly Twitter).

Supposedly speaking to Wijnaldum about Simons, Mbappe said: "He doesn’t want to come to PSG." To which the former Liverpool midfielder replied with ‘But you know why, but you know why."

Simons was at Paris Saint-Germain as a youth player before joining PSV Eindhoven in 2022. The Ligue 1 club then opted to resign him a year later, before he joined German side RB Leipzig on loan for the 2023/24. Rumors are currently circulating regarding his future in Paris, with several clubs being linked with a move for the player.

Simons was recently asked about his future in the French capital amid links to Liverpool, Manchester United and another loan move to Leipzig, where he said: "We'll see after the Euros. "I was happy in Paris. Things have happened. Now I was in Leipzig this year. We'll see after the Euros."

It's been widely reported the Netherlands international has informed PSG about his desire to leave the club this summer, albeit on another loan move. Bayern Munich and Arsenal have also been touted as other potential landing destinations.

Liverpool.com says: Simons has impressed at Euro 2024 and with eight goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga, it comes as no shock that top clubs are now monitoring his situation. Whether or not Liverpool make a move, remains to be seen. But his versatility on both flanks and through the middle could be of great use to Arne Slot next season. The new boss would have had a first-hand opportunity to watch the player in action when facing PSV as Feyenoord boss in 2022/23, too.
