Gerald Taylor Hearts loan transfer 'close' as Jambos target another Costa Rican

Hearts are closing in on the loan signing of Costa Rican defender Gerald Taylor, according to reports in his homeland.

The Jambos already have Taylor's countryman Kenneth Vargas after signing him initially on loan from Herediano before triggering their option to make it permanent. Now, they're looking to bring in the 23-year-old right back, once again on loan and this time from Saprissa.

The journalist in Costa Rica who first broke the news of Vargas last year has stated that a deal is being closed. His post translates to: "Contracts are being prepared to formalize the verbal agreement between Saprissa and Hearts for the loan of Gerald Taylor. The player's representative is Dearte Sports."

Taylor has five caps for his country and recently scored his first international goal from right-back. He has played in the top flight for his club for the past three seasons. He is versatile and has played on occasion at centre-back, left back and defensive midfield.

It comes after manager Steven Naismith revealed he hoped SIX signings could be announced soon. Pre-contracts Blair Spittal, Yan Dhanda, James Penrice and Ryan Fulton are yet to be officially confirmed and the boss is targeting at least two more.

Taylor would appear to be one of them while there could be further additions if any of the current squad leaves.
