It's been 242 days since Scotland secured back-to-back qualification to the European Championships.

Now, we're less than 24 hours away from the tournament finally getting underway and there's a mixture of nerves and excitement amongst the Tartan Army. Thousands have made their way to Munich for the Euro 2024 opener against hosts Germany and regardless of tonight's result, you can guarantee Scotland fans will be partying long into the night.

Steve Clarke's main objective, though, will be to make history by progressing into the knockouts for the first time and avoiding defeat at the Allianz Arena would give us the perfect opportunity to do just that. So, can we dare to dream? Football Scotland writers deliver their score predictions.

If there's one man who is capable of grinding out a draw, it's Steve Clarke. That said, Scotland will have to be at their very best and hope Germany have an off-day. It can happen, just look at what unfolded on that famous night at Hampden against Spain.

It's a free hit for the Scots, who have nothing to lose against the host nation. Our Group A fate will be decided against Switzerland and Hungary. We won't make it easy for the Germans and it might not be pretty at times for the millions watching on, so let's just hope Robbo and Co. give us a performance to be proud of.

Confidence seems to be high among the Tartan Army and, crucially, the national team camp, and this time it doesn't feel misplaced.

Germany are often slow starters and have the added pressure of being the host nation kicking things off. If Scotland can get in their faces, which we know they definitely can, then we can definitely unsettle them.

Three points would be the dream but a point would also be very welcome and I can see it happening.

I'm a big UFC fan. I love the sport, the storylines and the promos for the big cards. I tell you this because there have been many moments over the course of my fandom - you'll know if you, too, love the sport of MMA - where there's just been something in the air around a big main event. A special, hard to pinpoint feeling that the underdog is going to come out on top. I've felt it just a few times before. If you'll indulge me, Julianna Pena beating Amanda Nunes is one such fight before which I felt it. Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman another. Sean Strickland over the unstoppable Israel Adesanya.

All week I've had the feeling that Scotland can topple Germany. Longer than just this week, even. The Germans have not been the same since Japan turned them over and Steve Clarke has our lads - in competitive football, at least - flying and putting in the sort of performances we can be proud of and build upon.

Irn Bru have built their entire campaign on optimism and I've got a six pack ready.
