Getman helps OBU knock off ECU women

Dec. 19—SHAWNEE — Stratford High School product Jaedyn Getman scored a team-high 19 points to help lead Oklahoma Baptist University to a 69-60 victory over East Central in a Great American Conference women's basketball matchup Saturday evening at the Noble Complex in Shawnee.

OBU improved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while East Central dropped to 4-4 and 0-4.

"Despite our loss, we got better in certain areas," said ECU women's head coach Heather Hurt. "We fouled too much which led to free-throw opportunities for them We need to be more disciplined on both sides of the floor."

Oklahoma Baptist owned a huge advantage at the free-throw line, making 32-of-42 attempts. Meanwhile, ECU finished 13-of-20 from the stripe.

The Bison jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the first quarter but ECU closed the gap to 23-20 by halftime. OBU went 0-for-7 from the field in the second period but sank 8-of-10 free throws during that stretch.

East Central trailed 43-36 heading into the fourth quarter. The Bison led by as many at 14 in the final frame and ECU never got closer than five the rest of the way.

ECU got a double-double (her third of the season) from Mackenzie Crusoe, who finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Kennedy Cummings poured in 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 6-of-8 effort from the free-throw line off the bench for the visitors.

"Kennedy had a great game and provided us with points near the basket," Hurt said.

No other ECU player scored more than six points.

Getman also had a team-best nine rebounds for the Bison. Faith Wright scored 12 points for OBYU and Madison Chambers just missed double figures with nine.

The East Central women are now off for the holidays. The Tigers travel to Arkansas on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6 to battle Arkansas Tech and Harding in a pair of GAC road games.
