GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Charlestown wins fifth straight, defeats New Albany

Jan. 17—CHARLESTOWN — The Charlestown Pirates pushed their winning streak to five games Tuesday night, defeating New Albany 53-39.

Charlestown(13-6) was led by senior Maddie Nipper, who poured in 22 points for the host Pirates. Chesney Jackson added nine points for the Pirates.

Charlestown led 22-6 after the first quarter and never looked back.

New Albany(3-17) was led by senior Reese Stiles, who scored 16 points. Freshman Emily Spainhour added 13 points for the Bulldogs, as she knocked down four treys in the contest.

New Albany hosts Jeffersonville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Charlestown hosts North Oldham at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

HORNETS STING WARRIORS

HENRYVILLE — The Henryville Hornets broke their three-game losing skid Tuesday night, stinging the visiting Christian Academy Warriors 45-31.

After being held to five points in the opening quarter, Henryville scored 16 in the second and 14 in the third quarter to pull away from the Warriors.

Addison Foley led the way for the Hornets(13-7), scoring 8 points in each half to finish with 16 for the game. Alexis Marion also scored in double figures for Henryville, adding 10 points in the win.

Christian Academy(8-11) was led by freshman Carly Stevens, who scored 12 points. Leah Stevens added 10 points.

Christian Academy travels to Springs Valley at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Henryville plays at Borden at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
