WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley admitted the Terras “got loads out of the game” after beating Hamworthy Recreation 4-0 at the BJM Stadium.

Goals from Ezio Touray, Francis Amartey, Trialist B and Malachi Linton gave Weymouth a comfortable start to their summer endeavours.

But they faced a tenacious Rec side who created fleeting moments of discomfort, particularly in the second half when goalkeeper Gerard Benfield needed to make a point-blank save.

Weymouth’s Trialist B, standing above two metres tall, also had a header ruled out for offside in the second half.

Speaking post-match, Molesley told Weymouth’s media team: “Hamworthy were tough opposition.

“They matched us in terms of their intensity and aggression, so we got loads out of the game.

“It’s a first showing for some of our new players. It was all about a fitness exercise.

“Hamworthy put up a stern test so we had to keep running hard, keep working hard for the openings.

“We scored four goals in the end, a lot’s been going on. We’ve got running for one team, conditioning and other bits.

“So, it’s been a whirlwind of a night to try and get it all in.

“That’s given us a great game and we’re certainly seeing some bits in just three training sessions, some bits look good and there are some rough bits, which is even better because that’s what we want.

“At times, I want us to work hard. Sometimes, we do things that tactically weren’t quite right but I wanted us to do it so we had to work hard and overload ourselves.”

Weymouth’s next pre-season friendly comes at Sholing on Friday, July 12 (7.45pm).
