It is a day of footballing triumph for Arsenal. They have vanquished the sixth-best team in Serie A and march on to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, which is further than they have been in European competition since Emmanuel Eboue and Mikael Silvestre were in the team.

But in the transfer market, it is a day of despair. Not one, but two, of their sexiest players are being linked with potentially very upsetting moves to Premier League rivals. Again.

In January, the Gunners lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United and Olivier Giroud (the sexiest player of the lot) to Chelsea.

In the summer, they could lose Hector Bellerin to United and Aaron Ramsey to the Blues.

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are “monitoring” Ramsey’s contract situation at the Emirates – the Welshman having just 15 months left to run on his current deal and apparently making no progress on signing a new one.

“I think they’ve been busy tying up other contracts at the moment,” was Ramsey’s last comment on the issue, which could be read either as snide remark or a simple statement of fact.

Naturally, the Mirror is choosing the former option and suggesting that the unsettled Ramsey has “refused to commit himself” to the Gunners.

If that all sounds rather tenuous, there appears to be more meat on the bones of the Bellerin story, concocted by the Manchester Evening News with alleged assistance from “sources close to the player”.

These sources claim that United have been in “regular contact” with the right-back’s “camp”, whoever they are, and have “asked to be kept up to date on future developments”, which all sounds very polite.

Liverpool target wanted by Real Madrid

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of Roma goalkeeper Alisson doesn’t look like it will be an easy one. Not only are the Italians set to offer him a lucrative new contract with an £80m release clause; the Brazilian is also being targeted by Real Madrid.

The Sun says Real president Florentino Perez has been “blown away” by the 25-year-old’s recent displays and is currently looking for a new fax machine on eBay to prevent any last-minute David de Gea-esque technical hitches in the transfer.

This could all be good news for Chelsea, who the Mirror says are terrified that their goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, could move to Madrid if the Blues fail to qualify for the Champions League.

But in less good news for Chelsea, the Mirror says Eden Hazard will also agitate for a move away from Stamford Bridge if they fail to make for the top four – and that the club face a “desperate battle” to keep the Belgian.

Elsewhere, Juventus have had a meeting with Anthony Martial’s agents ahead of a planned £58m move for the Man Utd forward (Premium Sport), Real Betis are “fuming” with Jack Wilshere because they think he feigned interest in joining to get a better deal at Arsenal (Sun) and Barcelona believe their legendary midfielder Andres Iniesta will leave the Nou Camp for China this summer so that he can have an interesting cultural experience and earn an absolutely obscene amount of money (Sport).
