Gossip: PSG 'plot £100m Eriksen bid', Courtois 'determined to join Real Madrid', Man Utd 'prioritise Sandro'

Could Christian Eriksen be set for a move to France with PSG?
Could Christian Eriksen be set for a move to France with PSG?

Far be it from the Gossip column to express any sympathy with Premier League footballers, what with all their money and their cars and their sex. But it can’t always be easy being Thibaut Courtois – a freakishly tall 25-year-old man with two children who live 2,000 miles away.

The Chelsea goalkeeper’s son and daughter reside in Madrid with their mother, spending their days frolicking in the sunshine and eating pan con tomate while the big Belgian has to graft through cold winter after cold winter, just to bring pleasure to a fickle Russian oligarch.

But it doesn’t have to be this way – at least not after the summer of 2019. For that is when Courtois’ Blues contract expires, and Real Madrid are reportedly waiting in the wings to make him their No1 and reunite him with his offspring.

According to the Mirror, Courtois is “determined” to force through a move to the Bernabeu and the player’s contract situation means Chelsea will be powerless to stop him.

The Sun adds that the shotstopper wants to sign for a Real on a free transfer in the summer of 2019, although he also has “leverage” to get an earlier move because the Blues would prefer to get a fee for him.

That means he could be sold after the World Cup, although with his heart set on Madrid the Champions League finalists will be in a strong negotiating position.

PSG make Eriksen top summer target

Another world class star who could be leaving London is Christian Eriksen, who the Express says is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain in a £100m “mega deal” this summer.

The Tottenham playmaker has apparently been “singled out” by the French champions as the man to “rebuild their midfield” under incoming coach Thomas Tuchel.

The Dane could quadruple his salary by moving to the Parc des Princes. All PSG ask in return is that he guarantees them Champions League glory next season, or the Qataris will be terribly disappointed.

Manchester United’s latest “priority” signing for the summer is the Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has “intensified” his interest in the 27-year-old Brazilian while “cooling” his pursuit of Tottenham’s Danny Rose and opting against Celtic youngster Kieran Tierney. Whatever happens, it’s not looking good for Luke Shaw.

Meanwhile, Mourinho is set to hand Anthony Martial a “central striking role” next season in an attempt to ease the young Frenchman’s frustration and persuade him to stay at Old Trafford (Mail). Not sure if anyone has told Romelu Lukaku about this yet.

Elsewhere, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is set to snub interest from PSG to remain at Stamford Bridge, even if the Blues fail to make the Champions League (Mail), Burnley are lining up a £6m move for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan (Telegraph) and Rafa Benitez wants “written guarantees” about his transfer budget from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley before he signs a new Mapgies contract (Mirror). It’s almost as if Rafa thinks the man who has made billions through dubious working practices at Sports Direct might not be trustworthy.
