Gossip: Liverpool and Man Utd 'want Tottenham star Son', Lazio 'target Ramsey', Man City 'ponder Mooy return'

Son Heung-min wept like a baby following South Korea’s World Cup elimination. He looked like a man contemplating a bleak future of physical hardship, psychological warfare and a total absence of joy.

But it’s not because he is worried about having to do military service in his homeland; it’s just because his next manager might be Jose Mourinho.

German sports broadcaster Sport1, which is a very unimaginative name for a sports broadcaster, reports that Manchester United are among a number of clubs who will try to sign the Tottenham forward this summer.

Son is allegedly in danger of being conscripted by the South Korean government, who could enforce the two years of military service which are compulsory for all males in the country before they reach 28 years old (Son is about to turn 26).

But he seems more likely to fall into the hands of terrifying taskmaster Mourinho, who has enjoyed his effervescent attacking displays for Spurs and would like to add an exciting defensive element to them at Old Trafford.

United will face competition from Liverpool for Son, with Jurgen Klopp also said to be considering a bid. However, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has “no plans” to let the player leave, unless the South Korean army turn up at the gates of White Hart Lane in tanks.

Jack Grealish ready to leave Aston Villa

Pochettino has simultaneously been put “on red alert” by Jack Grealish, according to the Mirror, which says the Aston Villa midfielder has decided to quit Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a Villa Park exit all summer but is now officially “ready” to do so. Presumably he had to pack up all his stuff and break things off with a few casual girlfriends before he was able to leave Birmingham.

Grealish reportedly “expects” Spurs to make a bid, although that could be wishful thinking and he might end up having to go to somewhere like West Ham.

Villa are hoping for a “bidding war” and think Grealish should fetch more than the £24m Leicester paid Norwich for James Maddison earlier this month. Daniel Levy might think differently though.

Marouane Fellaini to reveal his next club

In hugely exciting news, there are just four days to go until Marouane Fellaini “announces” his future plans following months of tedious speculation about whether he will leave Man Utd.

The Manchester Evening News says the Belgian will end the uncertainty on 1 July and declare where he intends to play next season. The world is on tenterhooks.

Meanwhile, United have received a “boost” in their pursuit of Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, whose club Lazio have apparently started seeking replacements for him – among them Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey (Corriere dello Sport).

Elsewhere, Manchester City are considering activating a £20m buyback clause to bring Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy back to the Etihad (ESPN), Arsenal are “close” to signing Borussia Dortmund’s Greek centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and remain in talks with Freiburg for Turkish centre-back Caglar Soyuncu (Sky Sports) and Divock Origi will get the chance to “resurrect” his Liverpool career in pre-season (Liverpool Echo). He just needs to prove he’s better than Mo Salah and he’ll be straight back in the team.
