Phew. After what seemed like weeks, the international break is over and we can now all return our focus back to domestic football. Hurrah!

And to help you celebrate we’ve got a bumper edition of Yahoo Sport UK gossip to sink your teeth into.

To kick things off, Pep Guardiola is planning to break Manchester City’s transfer record to snare Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong. The 21-year-old Dutch international has caught the eye of Europe’s top clubs with both Barcelona and Tottenham heavily linked with the midfielder.

However, The Sun report City are willing to gazump both clubs’ offer of £44million and have reportedly told Ajax they will offer £62m for de Jong – £2m more than City paid Leicester for Riyad Mahrez this summer.

It’s not all good news for City however – teenage sensation Matthijs de Ligt has poured cold water on reports he will also trade in Ajax for the Etihad. When quizzed about whether he’d prefer to join City or Barca, Ajax’s captain simply replied ‘Ajax’. C’mon Matt, that’s no way to help us gossip writers out!

Across Manchester, United have been dealt a blow with Romelu Lukaku dropping a massive hint he’s ready to quit the Red Devils and shack up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.

“Why not? I hope it happens,” Lukaku told Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked if he would move to Italy. “Juve have a great project in place and they just keep going. Every year they try to get stronger.

“Without doubt, Juve are one of the two-three best teams in Europe. Cristiano Ronaldo stands out, but watch out for the others too. Paulo Dybala is already impressive and getting stronger, while I love Douglas Costa.”

Yikes. That doesn’t bode well for United. But never fear – good news is just around the corner for United fans: Luke Shaw is set to sign a bumper new deal worth £150,000 a week.

The 23-year-old has seen his stock rise significantly this season, and Jose Mourinho is keen to sign the fullback to a long-term contract will see Shaw become one of the highest paid defenders in the world.

The Red Devils have also been linked with a certain Welsh midfielder again, which brings us too.

Aaron Ramsey

The Mirror report United will hope it is third time lucky when they attempt to snare the Arsenal midfielder. Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to sign him from Cardiff in 2008, before the Old Trafford club made discreet enquiries this summer. And with Ramsey vowing to not leave in January, United will be hoping to lure him in on a free for next season.

If Ramsey were to leave in January however, the Gunners would consider making a move for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, at least that’s according to the Express. The ex-England international would be up for some game time, but would the Blues take the risk with a direct rival?

Sticking with Arsenal, and manager Unai Emery is keen to sanction a £70m move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey – but he will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool are keen to go all-in for Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne, who has already scored six times in Serie A so far. With the Reds’ forward line struggling for fluency and Mo Salah a busted flush struggling to replicate last season’s blistering form, Jurgen Klopp is willing to liberate the Italian from the stifling tactics of Italy and bring him to the gung-ho, free flowing Premier League.

In more good news for Reds fans, the club want to replace Alberto Moreno with 18-year-old Adam Lewis. Moreno is in the final year of his contract and talks have stalled between player and club.

After turning down an £11m offer from Napoli a couple of months ago, the Mirror now report Liverpool are willing to let the Spaniard leave for nothing and give the teenaged Lewis the task of challenging Andrew Robertson for the left-back berth next season.
