Gossip: Manchester United and Liverpool 'battle' for Pulisic with Rashford 'considering' quitting Old Trafford

One in and one out at Manchester United?
One in and one out at Manchester United?

Manchester United might not be great at beating the best sides on the pitch (zero wins against other top four teams this season) but they are getting really good at turning them over in the transfer market.

First they thrashed Chelsea 75 million-60 million to sign Romelu Lukaku, then they destroyed Manchester City 35 million-20 million to get Alexis Sanchez (these sound like the kind of scorelines a six-year-old would beat you at in Ludo) and now they’re about to smash arch-rivals Liverpool to buy Christian Pulisic.

The Mirror claims United manager Jose Mourinho is set to make the American teenager, who Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been eyeing up since he was a nipper, the latest expensive addition to his attack.

The Borussia Dortmund winger is also wanted by Bayern Munich (obviously, because he plays in the Bundesliga and he’s good) but he apparently wants to move to England “at some point in his career”.

That may mean he’ll sign for West Ham when he’s 34 years old and beset by muscle injuries, but maybe – just maybe – United can get him this summer while he’s in his pomp.

The Red Devils have reportedly been seduced “as much by Pulisic’s marketing potential as his ability on the pitch”, which is perfect because we have already established that despite buying all these players United are still not beating anyone good on the pitch anyway.

Rashford ‘forced to leave Man Utd’

Unfortunately, this is all very bad news for Marcus Rashford, who could be forced to quit Old Trafford because Mourinho keeps buying people who play in his position.

The Express says the 20-year-old Mancunian fears “he may never get the game time he deserves” after seeing the Red Devils linked with the likes of Pulisic and Ajax forward Justin Kluivert and may “decide to take action”.

The paper hasn’t bothered suggesting any possible destinations for Rashford, probably because they just made the story up on the spot and their guess is as good as ours.

Meanwhile, the Independent reports that Mourinho “has no plans” to make any major attacking signings this summer and is “really happy” with his wealth of options up front. So someone’s lying (or everyone is).

In gossip that isn’t about Man Utd, the Mirror claims Arsenal are plotting a move for Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic.

The 21-year-old Serbian was allegedly watched by Gunners scouts at the European Under-21 Championships last summer, which was ages ago so it’s unclear why they’re only telling us about it now.

In any case, Arsenal are apparently considering a bid for Zivkovic as part of their plans to “mount a title bid next season”. One 5-1 victory and they all start to get carried away – classic.

Elsewhere, Gunners and Tottenham target Malcom says he wants to leave Bordeaux in the summer after being denied a move away from the Ligue 1 club in January (Standard), Luiz Suarez wants Barcelona to sell Lucas Digne because he thinks the French defender is rubbish (Express).
