Yes, they do – Cristiano Ronaldo has made sure of that with his blatant attempt to out-glitz Russia 2018 by making a literally sensational £100m move from Real Madrid to Juventus just as the tournament reaches its climax.

Three Lions heroes such as Gazza and Terry Butcher still dominate today’s back (and front) pages, but CR7 is lurking with his own prominence as more details emerge of the transfer of the summer.

First up, where were Manchester United while all this was going on? Sitting back chillaxing according to the Express, which says the Red Devils could have re-signed Ronaldo if they wanted to but instead “rejected” the opportunity to do so.

United were apparently asked “this summer and last summer” if they wanted the Portuguese superstar but said no both times. Similarly, Paris Saint-Germain – the only other team that were considered a viable option for Ronaldo – also passed up the chance to sign him.

So up stepped Juventus, where the Mirror says Cristiano will be “laughing all the way to the bank” and pocketing £72,925 a day, or 84p a second, which doesn’t actually sound like that much (but it is – it’s exactly the same as £72,925 a day).

Eden Hazard could replace Ronaldo at Real Madrid

Attentions will quickly turn to who replaces Ronaldo at the Bernabeu, and the Mirror says Chelsea are particularly worried it will be Eden Hazard. The Belgian said earlier this week it would a “dream” to play for Real Madrid, especially when compared to a season in the Europa League with a club that doesn’t know who its own manager is.

However, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are also thought to be strong contenders to fill Ronaldo’s prolific boots.

There could also be repercussions in Turin, with Liverpool once again being linked with the man who could be pushed out by Ronaldo’s arrival.

According to reports in Argentina (translated for our convenience by the Metro), Paulo Dybala’s Juve future is now in doubt and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp could take advantage of the uncertainty by launching an £80m bid for the 24-year-old forward.

Dybala had apparently not been informed by the Italian champions of their plan to sign Ronaldo, and he has also not been told by manager Massimiliano Allegri whether he will be playing alongside the club’s record signing. The Argentine has welcomed his potential rival to the club in an Instagram post though, which is nice.

Meanwhile, the Reds have “opened talks” with Stoke City over a deal for their Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri, says the Telegraph. The 26-year-old is believed to have a release clause in his contract of “over £13m”.

The Anfield club are also said to be “contemplating” a move for Grzegorz Krychowiak, the PSG and Poland midfielder who played at West Brom last season and wasn’t very good (Sun). Weird.

Elsewhere, Everton are set to offer Barcelona £21m for their 23-year-old Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina (Goal), new Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to raid former club Chelsea to sign Brazilian defender David Luiz (Mirror) and Fulham could beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona to the signing of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri (Sun). Jean Michael Seri surely won’t be very happy about that.
