Gossip: Real Madrid 'keen on Pogba and Martial', Man Utd 'offered Kroos and Modric'

Could Manchester United pair Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial be off to Real Madrid? Reports suggest Zinedine Zidane is keen.
Could Manchester United pair Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial be off to Real Madrid? Reports suggest Zinedine Zidane is keen.

Do you ever feel like the entire concept of transfer gossip is just one endlessly repeating loop of a conversation about who Manchester United and Real Madrid might buy? Well, today won’t help you shake that feeling.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Real Madrid are interested in signing three players from United in the summer. They are: Paul Pogba, David de Gea and Anthony Martial.

While the European champions’ interest in goalkeeper De Gea is well established, it is claimed they are also “monitoring the situations” of French internationals Pogba and Martial – the current status of those “situations” being that both men think Jose Mourinho is a bit of a plum.

It’s not all one-way traffic on the United-Real transfer front though, because the Spanish side have also reportedly offered Mourinho “first refusal” on three of their players too.

The names will be familiar to anyone who has followed United transfer gossip at any point in the past five years: Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

The illustrious trio have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford in the past, especially Bale who increasingly looks surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and was left out of the Real side that hammered Juventus two days ago.

Los Blancos have apparently “intimated they could be amenable” to allowing either Kroos or Modric to move to Manchester in a “de facto swap deal” for one of the United players they like. Has the Manchester Evening News swallowed a thesaurus?

Fabinho wants £55m Man Utd move

The Red Devils are also being linked in the Sun with a move for Monaco’s right-back turned holding midfielder, Fabinho.

The Brazilian is another player United have been tipped to sign for a number of years, and the rumours could finally become reality with the 24-year-old apparently “desperate” to quit the Ligue 1 champions.

He is said to “prefer” a move to Old Trafford, although his actual quote on the matter is, “Speaking the truth, I have had no contact with any team and I do not even care.”

Which doesn’t sound too promising, but the Sun ploughs on regardless, claiming it has been “told” Fabinho is set for a £55m move to England, where he would form a “central midfield threesome” with Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Meanwhile, the Star has some more stories about who Real Madrid might sign. Or, more specifically, who they might not sign. Namely, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have apparently “backed out” of deals to sign the Tottenham striker and the Liverpool forward because they want to go “all out” to sign Bayern Munich goal machine Robert Lewandowski instead. He’s a bit old, but fair enough.

Elsewhere, in news that has nothing to do with Man Utd or Real Madrid, Gent’s £13m-rated Nigerian winger Moses Simon is wanted by Liverpool, Newcastle and Brighton (HLN Sport), West Ham are keen on Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli after manager David Moyes scouted him this week (Sun) and Tottenham players were yesterday “stunned” to discover that chairman Daniel Levy earns more than any of them on £6m a year (Times). No wonder there isn’t any cash available for Toby Alderweireld’s new contract.
