Kevin. It’s not a cool name, or an interesting one, and it’s certainly not a sexy one. But there is one man doing his best to change this.

Kevin de Bruyne. The world’s undisputed top Kevin is on a gallant one-man mission to put the sexiness back into Kev.

He’s still got a long way to go – a hell of a long way if we’re being brutally honest about this – but days like today give his noble quest an almighty boost.

Today is the day that Real Madrid are trying to buy themselves a Kevin.

The unofficial Manchester City website City Watch “exclusively” claims that the European champions have made contact with De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick De Koster, to “register their interest” in the ginger playmaker (De Bruyne is on a separate mission to put the sexiness back into gingerness too, but more on that another time).

An approach from Zinedine Zidane’s side is the culmination of a period of scintillating form for De Bruyne, who has been the standout player in City’s phenomenal start to the season.

If his move to the Bernabeu were to materialise, he would be the first Kevin to wear the famous white shirt since Kevin Franck in the 2000/01 season, who to be frank (no pun intended) doesn’t really count because he only played in the reserves.

There is also a Kevin (no surname) currently in Real’s youth set-up but he is literally nine years old.

Real’s alleged interest in De Bruyne would be a timely fillip for the Kevin cause after that horrible business with one-time Top Kevin, Kevin Spacey.

But as ever, the Kevins will have to be patient. City Watch adds that, although De Bruyne was informed of Real’s interest, he has made it clear that “his intent is to remain at City”. But the Kevins can wait – they’ve been waiting for a long time already.

Mourinho orders a magician

Last Kevin to play for Manchester United? Kevin Moran – 29 goddamn years ago – and Jose Mourinho currently has no interest in acquiring a new one. What Mourinho wants is something far more exotic.

The Sun reports that the Red Devils manager has ordered his worldwide web of scouts to “find him a magician”.

The Special One isn’t organising a child’s birthday party (although imagine how boring he would make it if he did), but rather is seeking a creative footballer who can “unlock the tightest of defences”.

It’s a tough ask of the United scouts, who have just one month to find this elusive player before the transfer window opens. That Rooney guy at Everton is in pretty good form at the moment?

Evans in demand

One player who would never be described as a magician is former United defender Jonny Evans, but this has not remotely damaged his marketability. Following a summer in which he was repeatedly linked with a transfer, the West Brom centre-back is set to be in demand again in January.

The Mirror says Arsenal will make a “fresh move” for Evans next month after having a £25m bid turned down in August, while the Telegraph claims Man CIty will also renew their interest in the Northern Irishman. This time, the Baggies could be tempted to sell in order to raise some transfer funds for new boss Alan Pardew.

Elsewhere, Barcelona are set to offer Arsenal their Turkish midfielder Arda Turan in part-exchange for Mesut Ozil (Star), Newcastle are interested in Man Utd left-back but have been “put off” by the £20m asking price (Sun) and Tottenham are considering a move for West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini (ESPN).

Finally, RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner could miss out on a move to Real Madrid because the Spanish giants are worried about an ear condition that affects his ability to play in noisy stadiums (Marca). Sounds like he could be a perfect signing for Arsenal.
