Wheel of Fortune is returning to UK TV screens with Graham Norton as its new host.

The iconic game show will air on ITV1 and ITVX in 2024 for six regular episodes and two celebrity specials, where players will once again aim to solve word puzzles by spinning a giant wheel filled with cash prizes.

"I'm beyond excited to be bringing such an iconic American show to a new British audience," Norton said. "My first ever TV job was a game show on ITV so this feels like coming full circle. You might even call it a wheel!"

Norton has plenty of game show experience, having most recently hosted the talent competition Queen of the Universe and, of course, he sits on the panel for RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

Fans can count on the classic rules of the game being retained for this ITV1 reboot, including the threat of a player losing their winnings if they land on 'bankrupt' or 'lose a turn' with each spin of the wheel.

"We are thrilled to have the much loved Graham Norton bringing this iconic game show to our viewers. Anything can happen on the spin of a wheel, it is going to be so much fun," Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said.

The original UK version of Wheel of Fortune aired on ITV1 between 1988 and 2001, featuring The Chase's Bradley Walsh, Nicky Campbell, John Leslie and Paul Hendy as previous hosts.

The series was also famed for its female co-hosts as clue board operators, with Carol Smillie memorably doing so from 1989 through to 1994. Angela Ekaette, Jenny Powell and Terri Seymour also co-hosted the original series.

This big news about Wheel of Fortune's return to UK screens comes days after it was announced the US version's host, Pat Sajak, will retire after 41 seasons.

Wheel of Fortune will air on ITV1 and ITVX in 2024.
