GREAT Wakering Rovers will be looking to reach the pinnacle of non-league football this weekend.

Rovers host Worcester City in the second leg of the FA Vase semi-final at Burroughs Park, trailing 1-0 from Saturday’s first meeting between the two teams.

But boss Marcus Bowers believes his side are still more than capable of triumphing on aggregate and is dreaming of leading his side out at Wembley for the final against Romford next month.

“It’s every footballer’s dream to play at Wembley,” said Bowers.

“I don’t think playing at Wembley can be topped in non-league football.

“I’ve seen a lot of stuff going on Twitter from Romford after they got through and I’m hoping we can match that this weekend.

“But Worcester are a very, very strong side so we need to do everything we can and more to get the job done.

“It will be seriously difficult but we believe we can do it.”

Worcester are currently top nine points clear at the top of the UHL Premier Division with three games in hand on second placed Corsham Town.

City have now also won 24 games in succession but Bowers was encouraged by the first leg, despite the match not going his side’s way.

“The team are confident after the weekend,” said Bowers.

“We actually played quite well so it was disappointing coming away with a 1-0 loss but we’re still in the game and the boys are confident we can overturn it.”

Rovers will also be roared on by a sold out Burroughs Park.

And Bowers is certain that will also work in Wakering’s favour.

“It’s going to be very busy,” said Bowers.

“The last round against Falmouth we had 700 watching and I believe we’re looking at nearly double that this time.

“The atmosphere will be good and I’m hoping the boys will thrive off it.

“It will be our 12th man and just what we need.”

Wakering warmed up for the FA Vase clash with a 4-1 win against Hullbridge Sports.

And Bowers is happy to heading into Saturday’s match off the back of a good win.

“Tuesday was great,” said Bowers.

“It’s three league wins in a row now after a little bit of a blip and it’s good to take some momentum into the game on Saturday.

“We won fairly comfortably and could rest a few few bodies.”

And the Essex Senior League also enabled Wakering to postpone Thursday night’s clash with Buckhurst Hill ahead of this weekend’s tie.

“The league gave us Thursday off too which was nice from them,” said Bowers.

“It means we could prepare fully for Saturday and we’re looking forward to it.”
