Hairy Bikers star Si King says best friend Dave Myers is ‘not very well’ amid Covid battle

Hairy Bikers star Si King has shared an update on his co-star Dave Myers as he battles Covid, saying “he’s not very well... but Dave is as tough as an old boot.”

The presenter made another solo television appearance after telling on The One Show last week that Myers 64, is unwell with the virus.

He joined Dan Walker and Sally Nugent on Monday’s BBC Breakfast, and when asked how the TV chef is getting on, said: “He’s getting there. I think it’s hit him a little bit harder than any of us were anticipating, really. But Dave is as tough as an old boot.”

He added: ‘He’s not very well at the minute but we’re keeping a close eye on him.”

“Will you pass on our love?’ Strictly Come Dancing contestant Walker asked. “I hope he’s okay and that he’s back at it as soon as he can be.”

Myers, 64, didn’t appear on The One Show to promote the Geordie chef duo’s latest series Go North last week where he revelaed to presenter Rylan Clark-Neal he had Covid.

Clark-Neal asked: “Si, no Dave? Is he alright?”

The 54-year-old replied: “He has Covid. He’s getting there. I think he’s not too well but it’s not bad. It’s very odd to be here without him. It’s a bit odd.”

Rylan then said: “You know what the new series is great,” before asking Si why they had decided to be more personal in the new series.

“We just wanted to open up a little and just have the craic,” he explained.

“You know what Dave and I are like, we can talk the hind leg off a donkey. It was just nice to do and a lovely show to do with the people we know and love and the food we grew up with.”

The late Prince Philip was revealed to be a superfan of the Hairy Bikers as his grandson Prince william spoke about his fondness for cookery shows.

Philip’s cooking skills were praised by the Duke of Cambridge, on a BBC tribute to Philip last month, saying: “Every barbecue that I’ve ever been on, the Duke of Edinburgh has been there cooking… he’s definitely a dab hand at the barbecue.

“I can safely say there’s never been a case of food poisoning in the family that’s attributed to the Duke of Edinburgh.”

The Countess of Wessex added: “Cooking is something that I love talking to him about. And he loves watching cookery programmes. Hairy Bikers, I think is one of his favourites.”
