England have been put on high alert just 94 days before the World Cup kicks off after Tottenham striker Harry Kane limped off with an ankle injury against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The 24-year-old will have a scan on Monday to assess the extent of the damage amid fears he could miss the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Kane was injured after colliding with Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after 34 minutes – and seeing a goal ruled out for offside to add insult to injury.

Tottenham were trailing 1-0 at the time but went on to win 4-1.

Kane suffered ligament damage last season to the same ankle and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted he is concerned over his striker who has scored 24 Premier League goals this season.

Pichettino said: “Yes we are concerned because we still don’t know what’s going to happen with him. We need to wait until after the scan and see the reality. I hope that’s it’s not a massive problem.’

Kane is level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah at the top of the Premier League scoring charts as he aims for a third straight Golden Boot award.

England’s preparations for the World Cup continue later in March with friendlies against Netherlands and Italy.
