Nuno Espirito Santo, the Tottenham Hotspur head coach, has revealed he has still not spoken to Harry Kane since his appointment in June.

Nuno hopes to avoid any “public argument” over the future of his most important player but he accepted that Spurs must find a solution to the “situation” as soon as possible.

“We solve the situation internally with the club, speaking and trying to reach a better solution,” said Nuno after a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“The answer I will give you is that I expect, I really expect, to speak with Harry soon. I haven't had the chance yet. Anything in relation to Harry is internal so first of all we have to solve the problems ourselves.”

Meanwhile Kane has ignored the threat of being fined by Tottenham Hotspur by spending another day in Florida and effectively ruling himself out of having to face Manchester City in the first game of the new Premier League season.

Telegraph Sport revealed on Tuesday that Kane had made a pit-stop in Florida on his way back from a holiday in the Bahamas, despite Tottenham’s disappointment that he did not return for pre-season training at the start of this week.

Tottenham are disappointed by his actions and are likely to fine their star player, but that threat did not stop Kane remaining in Florida on Wednesday and pushing back the date he can resume training even further into next week.

Kane plans to report back to Spurs at the weekend, but he is likely to only be able to take a Covid test at the club before then having to complete a period of isolation ahead of a return to training.

It means there is virtually no chance of Kane being ready for Tottenham’s first game of the season against City a week on Sunday, given he won’t have played in any pre-season games and trained for less than a week.

Kane is hoping to force through a move from Spurs to City ahead of the closure of the transfer window and it appears he will not be playing for either club when they face each other on August 15.

Chairman Daniel Levy had already made it clear that he would not allow Kane to face Spurs in the first game of the season for City by selling him in time to play in the Premier League opener.

City are expected to step up their interest in Kane after completing the £100million signing of Jack Grealish and there are suggestions that the Premier League champions are keen to make progress well before the closure of the transfer window at the end of this month.

There have also been claims that City are preparing to hold Sergio Aguero’s old number 10 shirt back for Kane, rather than giving it to Grealish.
