The chancellor has defended the “Eat Out To Help Out” scheme after claims it helped fuel a second wave of coronavirus.
Rishi Sunak said the government scheme was vital to save jobs and aid the economy.
“We had an industry that I care deeply about because of employment. It’s over two million people,” he said.
Sunak previously defended the scheme last month, saying it was “too simplistic” to connect it to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
However, a number of scientists insist it could have been a factor, saying young people shouldn’t be blamed for the spread of coronavirus.
