Hayden Coulson gets move he wanted after permanent Middlesbrough exit is confirmed

HAYDEN Coulson's time at Middlesbrough has come to an end, with the left-back having completed a permanent move to Blackpool after impressing on loan at Bloomfield Road last season.

Coulson was well down the pecking order at Boro and at 26 it was best for all parties that the left-back moved on and looked to kick-on elsewhere.

After six loan moves in the last six years, Coulson says he's pleased to have some "stability" having signed a three-year deal with the League One Seasiders.

He made 19 appearances for Blackpool last season after joining on loan in January.

The left-back's Boro career had looked likely to come to an end last summer but he then signed a new contract before returning from a loan spell with Aberdeen and had an opportunity to establish himself in Michael Carrick's plans.

But after starting the first two Championship games of the season, he didn't feature again in the league before leaving for Blackpool, where he impressed. Boss Neil Critchley identified the permanent capture of the full-back as a priority this summer.

Coulson said: “I’m really happy to be back.

“After enjoying my time here so much last season, I knew this was where I wanted to come back to on a permanent basis. It’s good to have a bit of stability.

“I’ve had great support from the staff, players and fans and I want to do what I can to repay that faith going forward.”

Coulson made 53 appearances for Boro. He first broke into the team during Jonathan Woodgate's time in charge and was a stand-out performer in the 2019/20 season before falling out of favour under Neil Warnock.
