Heartbroken Kieran Tierney breaks Scotland injury silence after ex Celtic star left Euro 2024 camp early

Kieran Tierney has broken his silence after leaving the Scotland Euro 2024 camp with injury.

The Arsenal defender today left Germany to travel back to the UK to be assessed for his hamstring problem by his club. He had to be stretchered off during the draw with Switzerland on Wednesday night and it immediately looked to be be a bad one as he clutched the back of his leg and signalled to the bench.

Steve Clarke admitted after the game the 27-year-old, a key man on the left of his back three, would play no further part in the competition. And it was confirmed today that he had indeed travelled back to the UK to be assessed rather than staying in Germany with the squad.

Tierney has now tweeted and said: "Heartbroken doesn’t cut it. Love this team and these boys. This too shall pass."

Clarke's assistant John Carver addressed the situation in his presser earlier and said: "He has got an issue with his hamstring and, as we speak, he's heading home to be assessed by Arsenal and that's all I can really say at the moment. They'll obviously give you updates as they have it.

"He's obviously extremely disappointed. If we do progress and move through the tournament, I'm sure he'll be back to support us. He's a young lad, he's got plenty of time, but he's got to make sure it's right for his return.

"It's a blow because one of our top players and in tournament football you need your best players on the park. In particular with him he gives that balance down the left hand side with Andy Robertson and Callum McGregor and they combine really well.

"Whenever any team loses their best players, it will affect the situation. But it also is an opportunity for someone else to step in."
