Moving footage of a man helping his girlfriend as she battles with the impacts of alopecia has gripped social media.

The clip, posted on TikTok by Eva Barilaro, shows her boyfriend shaving her hair off after she had asked him for help in doing so.

"After months growing my hair for the first time in 10 years I had to ask my boyfriend to shave my head again," she said in a caption posted alongside the video.

But in an apparently unexpected move which has since left social media users swooning, Ms Barialo's boyfriend begins shaving his own head too towards the end of the clip.

The show of support left Ms Barilaro visibly overwhelmed, and has now won the attention of Twitter users and attracted nearly 10 million views after transitioning onto the platform having first being posted to TikTok back in May.

Twitter user Rex Chapman urged others to "get out the tissues" as he shared the clip on Wednesday, with others quick to heap praise on the "tender and loving" footage.

Others meanwhile shared their own stories of hair loss and illness, supportive partners, or helping give their kids a buzz cut.

Responding to the surge of comments, Ms Barilaro praised Mr Chapman for sharing the heartwarming clip of her and her partner.

“You rock, Thank you for sharing our video and help us spread our love,” she Tweeted.
