Major winner Henrik Stenson has declared himself a Celtic fan by sticking the boot into Rangers.

The 2016 Open champion has lifted the lid on his love for football in a wide-ranging interview with Jack Martin at Golf Australia. And it will come as no surprise to hear that the Swede first started following the Hoops because of the goalscoring exploits of Henrik Larsson.

However, the LIV golf star - who won the Open Championship at Royal Troon eight years ago - couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Gers as he was asked about his football allegiances. He said: "When I was really young I used to watch the English matches on TV in Sweden.

"I was a Liverpool fan because of the Swedish defender Glenn Hysen. But Henrik Larsson, one of our best-ever players, ended up at Celtic, so that got me interested in them. However, I might have just said I support them to piss off a Rangers fan."

It's not the first time that the 48-year-old has aimed a jibe at Rangers. Stenson was on the wind-up during a promo interview for a Callaway@Rangers golf event in 2016 as he teamed up with Rangers players and staff for some fun golf and football challenges.

In a quick-fire Q&A, Stenson once again confessed that his favourite player was Hoops icon Larsson and that if he hadn't made it as a golfer, he wanted to be "a Celtic player, for sure."

We don't think he'll be invited back to Ibrox anytime soon!
