West Bromwich Albion Fan View: Heroic Ben Foster pushes Baggies past 40-point mark

It had been a great turnaround by the Baggies, after conceding a goal in the fifth minute through a Josh King penalty, goals from Craig Dawson and the evergreen Gareth McAuley had put Albion in the driving seat. But it wasn’t over yet.

In second-half stoppage time, with just seconds remaining, Bournemouth substitute Lys Mousset unleashed a fierce shot from the edge of the area, but West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster produced a great save and tipped it over the crossbar to keep his team’s lead.

From the resulting corner, Cherries defender Tyrone Mings got his head to the ball and it looked like it was looping into the home team’s net, but Foster was not to be beaten.

He flung himself towards the ball and pulled off a magnificent, acrobatic save to deny the away side, the whole Bournemouth team had their hands on their heads in disbelief, they thought they’d snatched a point. West Brom’s defenders may have produced the goals to win, but Foster ensured it.

Foster signed for the club in 2012 for just £4m, in what was surely one of the most successful signings in the club’s recent history. In fact, I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he’s made or goals that he’s been at fault for, and thats a testament to how good he’s been for us.

There was a time when having a dodgy goalkeeper was just part of being a West Brom fan, we’ve had some absolute shocker’s between the sticks. Keeper’s like Scott Carson and Pascal Zuberbühler really do send shivers of fear down my spine, but Foster has been absolutely superb, and he’s still got plenty of years left in the tank at 33 years of age.

As crazy as it sounds, I don’t think Foster gets the credit that he deserves, he so regularly pulls off outstanding saves that it has now become almost expected. I’m not sure there’s been a better goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.

Boing Boing!
