Hollywood beach shooting: Parkland family caught up in Florida attack as 911 calls capture chaos

Dramatic 911 calls have captured the chaos of the mass shooting on a beach boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida, on Memorial Day.

In the audio, released on Tuesday, terrified beachgoers are heard begging police to come to the scene of the shooting which left nine victims, including a one-year-old, wounded.

“Oh my God, I don’t know what’s going on,” one woman is heard telling the dispatcher.

“Margaritaville. Please, on the beach. They are shooting out here,” a panicked male voice says.

Four children and five adults were injured in the shooting.

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime Guttenberg was murdered during the Parkland school shooting, revealed on Twitter that his son Jesse was at the beach hours before the attack.

Mr Guttenberg, and others, called on lawmakers to create stricter gun safety laws while criticising Ron DeSantis’ recent legislation that makes it easier to conceal carry.

Two men have so far been arrested in connection to the shooting but authorities are still looking for three suspects and asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

Earlier this month, Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Friday that critics say will make it harder to investigate gun crimes.

The legislation, SB 214, prevents credit card companies from affixing purchases of guns and ammunition with a special code, which can later be used to investigate various gun-related transactions.

The Republican governor framed the decision as a defence of individual privacy and gun rights.
