Horse racing: Yahoo Sport UK’s Lucky 15 – Friday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Friday, October 14, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

ROLLING MAUL (Fakenham 3.15) has not always been a sound proposition over fences, having had a bad experience on his first try when sliding into a ditch at Aintree. That dented his confidence, but Peter Bowen has done plenty of schooling with him since, and it appears to have reaped dividends. He looked far more assured when scoring over 3m in a novices’ chase at Bangor last month when beating three rivals comprehensively. Wat he actually beat is arguable, but he stayed on well and should be a fair price as he takes a step up in class for the extended 2m5f novices’ chase.

BIG STORM COMING (Redcar 4.00) went close over 1m at Chelmsford last time, having previously landed a 7f Thirsk handicap off a mark of 62. He was a little unlucky not to follow up off a 6lb higher mark, having finished fast and late after having to be switched to challenge in a bunched-up field. Jim Crowley, who is mathematically assured of the title after riding a double at Brighton yesterday, takes the ride aboard the David Brown-trained six-year-old, who can defy a mark of 69 in the 7f handicap.

ROUGE DEVILS (Wincanton 4.45) has a fair chance of upsetting the likely favourite Muirfield in the 2m5f maiden hurdle. Paul Nicholls’ inmate was a well beaten third at Hereford last week on his first start since April, when landing his second point-to-point for Jack Barber. He came off the bridle a long way out and went backwards quickly when the pace increased. The feeling is he will come on a lot for the run and he will need to if he is to take a hand in the finish.

TALENT TO AMUSE (Haydock Park 5.30) should appreciate the step up to 2m, having run a couple of solid races in defeat at Newmarket (1m4f) and Chester (1m5½f). She bumped into a progressive filly in Pleasure Dome at Chester last time, having raced one off the rail on the tight left-handed track, so had her excuses. The Roger Varian-trained daughter of Manduro is probably the best of the sizable three-year-old contingent who take on older horses in the 0-85 handicap, but her mark of 81 looks exploitable.
